Speedwell Heights Brethren in Christ Church, 413 W. Brubaker Valley Road, Lititz, will host an old-fashioned hymn sing on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public. A freewill offering will be received. SPECIAL NIGHT OUT

The Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, will hold two family story times where children can visit with storybook costume character Madeline, enjoy Madeline stories, and make a craft. 29 Green Acre Road, Lititz, will host a blood drive on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 2 to 7 p.m. Blood donors must be in good health and free of allergy, flu, cold and nausea symptoms for at least three days; be age 16 or older; weigh at least 110 pounds; be well hydrated; and eat a healthy meal within four hours before donating. Faith United Methodist Church, 1290 Fruitville Pike, Lititz, will host a fall festival on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be moved indoors in the case of inclement weather. Activities will include pumpkin-themed games, pumpkin decorating, face painting, and a photo booth. Pumpkin and apple baked goods will be available for purchase, along with hot dogs. Concert To Feature Family Members By Ann Mead Ash

“We respect and we love one another, and you don’t always find that combination,” said Michael Jamanis, violinist, of his mother, Frances Veri, a pianist. The characteristics of that type of relationship are obvious between the two, who will be performing a special fall concert at Lancaster Catholic High School (LCHS). “I used to have to say, ‘Michael, did you practice?’” said a chuckling Veri. “Now he says, ‘Mom, did you practice?’” “These Are a Few of Our Favorite Things,” a free concert in the round featuring Jamanis on violin and Veri on piano, will be held at LCHS, 650 Juliette Ave., Lancaster, on Friday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Old Main Auditorium. The idea for the title came about when Tony Brill, LCHS director of Fine and Performing Arts, explained to Jamanis and Veri that they would be in the center of the audience on the auditorium floor. “It will be a much more intimate concert, and I love that because there’s more audience interaction,” said Jamanis. When high school directors consider fall plays, their minds may turn to the possibility of staging a show with a healthy dose of suspense. “I was looking for a murder mystery comedy,” said Tracy Wagner, Lancaster Catholic High School (LCHS) drama director. “Murder’s in the Heir” by Billy St. John met Wagner’s qualification, but the show also includes a chance for audience members to participate and help determine the outcome of the play. “It’s kind of like the game Clue, where every (character) has a weapon and a motive,” said Wagner of the drama, which will be staged at the See LCHS Play pg 2

Travel Program To Highlight Italy The third presentation of the Rotary Club of Lititz’s 2018-19 Travel and Adventure Series will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Warwick High School Performing Arts Center, 301 W. Orange St., Lititz. Performances will be at 2 p.m., with a musical prelude starting at 1:30 p.m., and at 7:30 p.m., with a musical prelude starting at 7 p.m. Steve McCurdy will present “Scenes From an Italian Journey.” Attendees will experience life in Rome, including festivals, pastry chefs, cheese, and more, and see the work of the city’s master sculptors and painters, as well as its architecture. McCurdy has directed and filmed in more than 20 countries on five continents, working as an independent filmmaker and producing for private and corporate organizations.
