The Lititz Community Band will present “An Evening with the Lititz Community Band” on Wednesday, Aug. 1, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the gazebo at Lititz Springs Park, located on North Broad Street. The concert will include classic and new tunes. Attendees should bring their own seating.

UPMC Pinnacle is holding a series of Lancaster/Lititz Summer Health Talks. The series will continue with two events at UPMC Pinnacle Lititz, located on Highlands Drive in Lititz. “Breastfeeding: Triumphs, Challenges, and Support” will be presented by Elaine Tobias from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1. The Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz, will present “Let It Rain” on Monday, Aug. 6, at 6:30 p.m. As part of the library’s Summer Reading Program, “Let It Rain” is presented by the Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation and is geared toward children age 5 and up. The program will feature a reading of the story “Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain” by Verna Aardema. Children will then make a rain stick and participate in a cooperative rain-making activity. Faith United Methodist Church, 1290 Fruitville Pike, Lititz, invites children ages 4 to 11 to “Operation Overboard: Dare to Go Deep With God” vacation Bible school (VBS) from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday to Friday, July 30 through Aug. 3. The VBS will include Bible lessons, mission work, dramas, crafts, games, science activities, and music. Everyone is invited to the church’s 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Aug. 5, when the children will share what they have learned. A family picnic will be held after the service. For several years, TTC/Potter’s House has hoped to build a faith-based rehab facility to combat drug addiction. On July 14, TTC/Potter’s House staff, area representatives, and friends of the ministry gathered at 261 School Lane, Brownstown, located along the Conestoga River, to dedicate the property to that cause and break ground for the recovery center, to be called Still Waters. TTC/Potter’s House is a nonprofit, Christ-centered ministry that offers a holistic approach to physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of pre-release and post-release prisoners and individuals desiring to overcome addictions. The organization is in the midst of a capital campaign seeking to raise $2 million for Still Waters Recovery See TTC/Potter’s House pg 3

Telling others about why the FoodStock Music Festival raises funds to support area organizations that are working toward eliminating hunger is easy for Tom Hayden. As one of FoodStock’s three founders, Hayden said that he became passionate about fighting hunger 26 years ago, when the postal service held its first Stamp Out Hunger food drive. As a postal service worker, Hayden had the chance to pick up thousands of donations and deliver 12,000 pounds of food to the Ephrata Food Bank. “We overwhelmed our local food bank with donations. Lititz Historical Foundation members invite local residents to grab lawn chairs, blankets, and their most colorful Hawaiian shirt and join them at a free concert. Funds raised by the event will benefit the foundation. The annual Evening of Music, which as been held for more than a dozen years, will take place in the Mary Oehme Gardens behind the Lititz Historical Foundation, 137 E. Jerilyn Oehme’s father, Richard, played golf several times per week. “The idea for holding a golf tournament (in his honor) came to me because that is something we always did together,” said Jerilyn recently. “That last Saturday before he passed, I played his last round of golf with him, so I thought one of the best things I can do to honor his memory is to hold a golf tournament.” The first Richard Oehme Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Overlook Golf Course, 2040 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, on Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at 1 p.m. The scramble format tournament will start with all groups of See Golf Tournament pg 5
