In 2018, TTC/Potter’s House held its annual pig roast at 261 School Lane, Brownstown, located along the Conestoga River. The purpose in choosing that location was to dedicate the property with plans to build a faith-based rehab facility to combat drug addiction, called Still Waters Recovery Center, on the site. This year, the organization, a nonprofit, Christ-centered ministry that offers a holistic approach to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of pre-release and post-release prisoners and individuals desiring to overcome addictions, will hold the event at West Earl Community Park, 189 S. State St., Leola, because permits have been granted and construction has begun at the Still Waters site. The pig roast benefit will be held on Saturday, July 27, from
noon to 4 p.m. Vans will be available to take attendees for tours at the Still Waters site a short distance away. For the more adventurous, kayaks and canoes will be available to paddle upriver to the site. The schedule for the drop-in experience will include a special 2 p.m. program with live worship music, testimonies, and a speaker. Lloyd Hoover, executive director of TTC/ Potter’s House, plans to discuss hope in the face of addiction issues. “The basic essence (is) us needing to recognize the seriousness of the impact of (addiction) on our communities,” said Hoover, “ … and to recognize that there is a way to respond. We are not hopeless or helpless.” At 3 p.m., baptisms will occur in the river that runs through the park. Hoover explained, “It’s a culmination time of us recognizing that in order to

According to Samuel Mwangi, a licensed addictions counselor, all addictions are centered in the brain of an individual. “It’s about stimulation of the brain, and it’s a matter of learning
different skills for each person depending on their situation,” said Mwangi. “Drugs (of choice) come into play from a physiological perspective, but we (at CCARS) deal with addiction as a whole.” Mwangi is the lead counselor at CCARS (Community Care and Addiction Recovery Services), one of the few licensed establishments offering addiction counseling in the northern and eastern parts of Lancaster County. CCARS opened in Conestoga Church of the Brethren (COB), 141 E. Main St., Leola, in early April. A dedication service on April 9, was attended by members of the Conestoga Valley Ministerium, Conestoga COB, and Carpenter Community Church, where Mwangi is a pastor. See CCARS Office pg 5
