Book Buddies will meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays from June 18 through July 30 at the Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz. The Book Buddies program provides opportunities for older children to mentor younger children during the summer months. Youths who have completed third grade and older may volunteer as mentors. Sessions will begin with all children hearing a story read by the leader. Afterward, participants will pair up to read and make a simple craft with their buddies. Rotary Wheels And Wings Festival, 5K Planned At Airport By Ann Mead Ash

In spite of the inclement weather last year, Rotary Club of Lancaster member Russ Harlan was impressed with the turnout at the 2018 Wheels and Wings Festival and 5K. “(Overall), we had half the attendance of the year prior, but we still had 91 runners in the 5K, and 70 car owners still showed up,” reported Harlan. “I was supremely impressed with 70 cars (coming out for the show) in the rain.” This year, organizers plan to bring back the activities they had planned for last year that were designed to entice more families to the event. The 2019

Wheels and Wings Festival and 5K, which will be held at the Lancaster Airport, 500 Airport Road, Lititz, on Saturday, June 22, will feature two bounce houses, helicopter rides for purchase, and a flying rebuilt Huey helicopter from the Vietnam era. Festivities will kick off with the 5K race at 8 a.m. A fly-in and a car show will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Live music will be performed beginning at 10 a.m. The event will be held rain or shine, and there will be no charge for spectators to See Wheels And Wings pg 5

Local Squadron Offers Learning And Adventure Lemonade Series Returns To Highland By Ann Mead Ash

Jerome “Pepper” Broad, deputy commander with Jesse Jones Composite Squadron 304 of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), which meets regularly at the Lancaster Municipal Airport, is happy to expound on the origins of the organization. “(CAP) started during World Cadet members of the Jesse Jones Composite War II,” said Broad, who added that Squadron 304 of Civil Air Patrol proudly the first members were coastal displaying the model rockets that they built watchers, scanning both the east during the June 3 meeting at Lancaster and west coasts of the U.S. for Municipal Airport include (back, from left) enemy submarines. The third intallment in the 2019 Opera Lancaster Associates (OLA) Lemonade Concert Series will feature four young people who represent the reason behind the events. On Thursday, June 20, the winners of the 2019 OLA voice competition will be showcased in a concert at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville Road, Lancaster. Students who triumphed in the competition include Gretchen Enterline of Lancaster, Rebekah Hill of Lancaster, Holly Butler of Leola, and Rebecca Gideon of Denver. According to Michelle Klink, one of the organizers of the Lemonade Series, the competition, now in its 50th year, had granted scholarship money to about 160 students. To raise funds to continue that tradition, freewill offerings are received at the Lemonade Concert Series. Concerts will be held at 7 p.m. on

QuintEssentially Brass will perform on Aug. 8 as part of the Opera Lancaster Associates Lemonade Concert Series. Thursdays through Aug. 15. Concerts kicked off with Auscultation Brass on June 6. The Lancaster Marimba Ensemble is set to perform on June 13. See Lemonade Series pg 3
