Lovin’ Lititz - One Cup At A Time Area Resident Offers Free Coffee To Visitors
ason Burkholder loves Lititz. “I live in Lititz,” said Burkholder. “I am a big proponent of downtown Lititz. I volunteer when I can with Venture Lititz, and I know a bunch of the shop owners.” Now Burkholder is looking to share his love of Lititz by inviting residents from the area and beyond to visit the town on the second Saturday of each month and enjoy a free cup of coffee … on him. “It occurred to me that we have Second Friday and maybe we can make Second Saturday a thing, (too),” said Burkholder, who ran his idea by Holly DeKarske, executive director of Venture Lititz, before moving forward. Next, Burkholder pitched the concept to Dosie Dough, a family-owned baking establishment at 45 S. Broad St., Lititz. “I reached out to Amy Lloyd at Dosie Dough and said, ‘What do you think?’ She thought it was a great idea,” he shared. The offer for

Burkholder is a Realtor with
Weichert Realtors, located in Manheim Township, but to him it seemed natural to promote the town where he lives. “The whole goal is to get people to downtown Lititz,” he said. “We have all these awesome shops, but if you’re just driving through in your car, you never see some of what they offer.” He encourages Lititz residents and others well beyond the borough limits to visit. “Come into town and grab a coffee and stick your head into some stores and see what you like,” said Burkholder, who lauded the Lititz Springs Park as the heart of the town, but noted the green space is only the beginning. “There’s so much to do,” he said. Burkholder has already gauged resident response to the effort. “People love it,” he said. “I plan to do it for this year, and I will continue for years to come.” Lititz resident Jason Burkholder displays a cup of coffee with the coffee cozy bearing the Second Saturday logo designed by Donna Felton (not pictured).
Seminary Bestows Catalytic Church Award On ECC
BY ANN MEAD ASH
On Feb. 3, Benton Webber shared several photos and newspaper articles on the Uncharted Lancaster group on Facebook. The photos showed a beautiful building, originally a farmhouse, located at 2201 Oregon Pike in Manheim Township. Landis House has been a fixture in Lancaster County for nearly 200 years, and its history has included occupants ranging from farm children to insurance executives. See Still Standing pg 4

When Kevin Eshleman, lead pastor of Ephrata Community Church (ECC), first became a student at Evangelical Seminary in Myerstown in 2007, he was impressed with the caliber of the institution and the quality of the professors. “It’s a great place,” said Eshleman. “The professors are godly people who love the Lord and have dug deep into the Scriptures in their specific areas of expertise.”
Eshleman wondered if there might be a way for the seminary to share the wisdom of its teachers with members of the community and church leaders who are looking to deepen their own knowledge of God. His answer, the creation of the Institute for Christian Learning (ICL) at ECC, resulted in Evangelical Seminary presenting the Catalytic Church Award to ECC at the end of 2020. The award would have typically been presented at the school’s See Seminary Bestows pg 5
