COBYS Family Services in June 2019. That figure does not include other types of kinship custody arrangements, such as aunts and uncles caring for their nieces or nephews or older siblings with guardianship of their younger brothers and sisters. All of those types of caregivers, however, are welcome to participate in the kinship support services offered by COBYS. Seminars are held on the fourth Sunday of the month at Lancaster Brethren in Christ Church, 1865 Fruitville Pike, Lancaster, and kinship coffee sessions are held around Lancaster County. See Kinship Program pg 2
Barb Paynter (left) of COBYS Family Services and Raeanne Nixon of Solid Rock Youth Ministries invite those who are caregivers of a relative’s children to attend the next kinship session, which will be held at Solid Rock on March 9.
The dress rehearsal of Solanco High School’s production of “Footloose” will be open to senior citizens on Wednesday, March 4, at 4 p.m. in the school’s auditorium, 585 Solanco Road, Quarryville. Refreshments will be served in the cafeteria during intermission. Admission will be free of charge, but reservations are required by calling district communication coordinator Keith Kaufman at 717-786-5617. General audiences are invited to attend the public performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, March 5, 6, and 7, at 7 p.m. Tickets for adults and for students may be purchased at the door. Tickets may be reserved ahead of time by calling 866-967-8167 or visiting www.showtix4u.com. “Footloose” was adapted for the stage by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie and is based on Pitchford’s original
screenplay, which was turned into a hit movie in 1984. Pitchford also wrote the lyrics, and Tom Snow wrote the music. Additional music was provided by Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins, and others. Solanco’s production is directed by Erin Biles, with John Biles serving as assistant director and producer. Scott Weyman is the pit director. Erin noted that the cast of 42 students is on the larger size for a Solanco production. Some of those actors are part of the dance ensemble, which she is excited about. Choreographer Debbie Shrom has been assisted by her daughter, Tiffany Shrom, who is a dance major at Slippery Rock University. “Dancing is really big in this show,” Erin said, adding that she chose “Footloose” for this year’s production because she knew she had dancers available. Curtailment of the freedom to dance and listen to rock music is the obvious conflict in the plot of “Footloose,” but See “Footloose” Musical pg 10
