Coin Auction Will Help Support MCC The Pennsylvania Relief Sale, which supports the work of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), is an institution in the state. A variety of donated coins will be sold at a live and online auction at the Bareville Fire Hall, 211 E. Main St., Leola, on Friday, Aug. 14, beginning at 5 p.m. Funds raised by the auction will benefit Mennonite Central Committee. The auction is being organized by the board members of the Pennsylvania Relief Sale, which was canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Lancaster, the local icon remained open throughout the coronavirus pandemic. “We have been actively providing updates to the community online on what stands are open and any operational changes that have needed to happen,” reported Decker. Kristofer Bucher, manager of Harvest Lane Farm, 851 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, noted that the market stays open year round, but this spring he was pleased to find more customers than usual wanting to shop there. “I think the small format gave and continues to give a lot of people the confidence to shop (locally) during the pandemic,” said Bucher. Jill Hertzog, artistic director of dance with Cavod Academy of the Arts, is excited about the theme for this year’s Camp Create, a summer camp experience specifically designed for teenagers and adults, those age 13 and up, with intellectual and developmental disabilities. “We are doing ‘Create With Purpose - What’s your purpose?’” said Hertzog, who noted that Cavod’s tagline is “Create With Purpose.” “Each camper will have the chance to explore different passions and creative outlets, and we will touch on identity, how much they are loved and how much they are worth.” This is the second year that Cavod, which is located at 665 W. The event is also known for homemade food and family-friendly activities. This year, however, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the auction was canceled. Steven Stoltzfus of Leola, who has long been involved with the relief sale, along with a group of volunteers wanted to help make up for some of the funds lost due to the cancellation. “We’re holding just the coin auction,” reported Stoltzfus. A variety of donated coins have been gathered to be sold at an auction that will be both live and online at the same time. The live auction will be held at the Bareville Fire Hall, 211 E. Trying out a new recipe, cleaning out drawers and closets, taking up an old hobby and trying their hands at arts and crafts are just some of the activities that congregation members at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Compass, spent time on during the stay-at-home order. Among those who took the time for a cleanout project was the Rev. Dr. Nina George-Hacker, rector of St. John’s. “My husband (Rick) and I moved into our apartment four years ago and were so busy working we never had time to deal with our basement storage unit, which was a mess,” she said. “One day, during our enforced stay-at-home, we spent 10 hours cleaning out and reorganizing the space. Now we know what is and isn’t in there and where to find it.” In addition to the basement, George-Hacker
also cleaned out and reorganized her desk drawers and dresser drawers, the home’s hall closet and linen closet, three floor-to-ceiling shelves of CDs, two four-drawer file cabinets and one kitchen cabinet. See St. John’s Compass pg 9
Pat Owens, a former member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Compass, painted ceramics during the stay-at-home order. Although she no longer resides in the area, she stays connected to St. John’s by watching services online.
