Hambright Elementary Celebrates Kindness W hen Hambright Elementary School staff members were brainstorming ideas to break up the winter doldrums, they found inspiration from a popular book and television series that focuses on kindness. The school designated February 2020 as Kindness Month, inspired by “The Kindness Diaries” book and Netflix series about a retired stockbroker who crosses the globe by relying on the kindness of strangers. Student writing prompts throughout the month focused on the subject of kindness, school announcements included daily kindness tips, and the school’s sign language club created a video to teach signs about kindness to the entire school. Teachers handed out “kindness snippets” to students who were kind to others so they could stick them on a “road to kindness” poster in the school cafeteria, and classrooms See Kindness Month pg 7

Since Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf ordered a statewide shutdown on March 16, those who found themselves at home - with or without children - may be struggling to fill the hours in quarantine. Mary Bauer, founder of Lucky Dawg Animal Rescue, based in Chester

County, has not hesitated to see the value in the hours. “Take advantage of the quarantine and get some fresh air and exercise with your dog,” said Bauer, who recommended throwing a ball or flying disc or working on basic training techniques. Those without pets to play with also have a variety of options for staving off See Cabin Fever pg 5

An Opportunity To Share Joy It’s often said that every challenge is an opportunity - an opportunity to grow, to encourage, to be compassionate, to give, to make others smile. Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we at the Advertiser have noticed countless community members embracing this concept, and we’d love to see more! We’re giving you an opportunity to share your joy by submitting ways you or others are figuratively turning lemons into lemonade. What fun activities have you done with your kids? What made you smile today? What constructive hobbies have you found to help you adjust to recent life changes? What has someone else done - knowingly or unknowingly that has blessed you or encouraged you? Tell your experiences at www.face book.com/townlively. Pictures and videos are welcome! Some stories will be chosen to be highlighted in a future issue of the Advertiser and on townlively.com.

Cemetery Project: Past Lives, Future Goals By Dayna M. Reidenouer

“When I was a younger man, I couldn’t have cared less, but now I’m 65. I’m interested in history,” Steve Herr commented. Steve grew up on a farm in Kirkwood. He and his brother were the third generation to work in their family’s farm equipment dealership. Eventually, however, the dealership was sold, and Steve went to work for another company. Sixteen years ago, he became a real estate agent. Three years ago, he and his wife, Connie, who taught math at Solanco High School, moved to Crossgates in Millersville. Last year, knowing how much Steve loves history, his three children gave him a subscription to See Cemetery Project pg 3
