Troop 30 To Host Pancake Breakfast By Dayna M. Reidenouer
Pancakes and sausage will be the featured entrée at the sixth annual fundraising breakfast hosted by Boy Scout Troop 30 on Saturday, March 14, from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Orange juice, milk, and coffee will round out the all-you-can-eat meal, which will be held in the fellowship hall of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 3131 Columbia Ave., Lancaster. The room is on the lower level and is accessed through the double doors at the rear of the church. The venue is accessible by wheelchair users. Takeouts will be available. Admission to the meal will be payable at the door. The Scouts’ parents and other troop supporters from the community will cook the meal, but the Scouts
will be in charge of setting up, serving, clearing tables, and tearing down after the event. Additional troop members plan to station themselves by Columbia Avenue to attract the attention of passing motorists and invite them to the meal. The proceeds from the event will be used to purchase much-needed equipment for the troop, said equipment coordinator Mark Musante. “We have all kinds of equipment needs,” he added. “We just purchased a new, used trailer for camping. (Our equipment has) outgrown the old trailer.” “We’re also replacing the 20-yearold tents,” commented Dan Keefer, troop committee chair. The tents have been well used, and, for the Scouts’ safety, it is time for the portable shelters to be retired.

Missions and its home remodeling store in Refton. The organization celebrated its 10th anniversary with a banquet on Feb. 22. By Dayna M. Reidenouer
“It has been 10 years of God’s love, mercy, and grace. I’m thankful God has kept things busy and hopping,” commented Matt Beakes, founder and executive director of IMPACT! Missions (IM). “I can’t believe all that has been
When Mike Dieter set out to obtain a set of decoys for waterfowl hunting in 1980, he did not realize that it would introduce him to an entirely different hobby. At the time, finances were limited, and Dieter was supporting a growing family. Rather than purchase decoys, he decided to make his own. Galen Shelly, Dieter’s friend and Lancaster County WoodCarvers (LCWC) member, invited him to attend club
meetings, and Dieter was bitten by the carving bug. In the following decades, Dieter learned to carve from patterns and then advanced to making his own designs. He discovered an affinity for traditional knife-carving, rather than using power tools, and he has even used a pocketknife once owned by his father. Dieter also employs a traditional painting method and has mastered the skill See Woodcarving Festival pg 5
