The Lady Braves varsity field hockey team at Octorara Area High School recently held a carbon monoxide (CO) awareness game during its home season opener to help educate the public about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. The event, held on Sept. 7, also featured the dedication of a new sound system at the field hockey field that was provided by the Carly Imbierowicz Foundation.

The foundation was founded by family members of Carly Imbierowicz, who, along with her friend Daulton “Daulty” Pointek, died on Nov. 22, 2014, when a broken exhaust pipe allowed carbon monoxide to leak into the car they were in. Both were students at Octorara Area High School, where Carly was a member of the field hockey team. The foundation sponsors the annual Octorara Angels Rainbow Run and Carbon Monoxide

Awareness Event and provides scholarships to Octorara students. Proceeds from this year’s Rainbow Run, held during the Octorara Agriculture, Business, Environmental Science and Technology Expo (OABEST) event in June, were used to purchase the new sound system. Although Carly was not a member of the track team, previous Rainbow Run events have benefited track improvements at Octorara per a suggestion by the school district. See CO Awareness pg 7

The Carly Imbierowicz Foundation provided the funding to install a new sound system for the field hockey team at Octorara Area High School. Participating in the dedication ceremony were (from left) Lindsey Lespier holding Carly Rose, Jennifer Achenbach, Donna Imbierowicz, Matt Imbierowicz, Katie Jamison, Paige Lowry and (front) Foxy, a carbon monoxide awareness mastiff puppy.
