The fifth annual Octorara Angels Rainbow Run and Carbon Monoxide Awareness Event will take place on Saturday, June 1, at the Octorara Intermediate School, 228 Highland Road, Atglen. The event will kick off the Octorara Agriculture, Business, Environmental Science and Technology (OABEST) Expo, which is scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event will feature a 5K run/walk, during which participants will be doused with color, along with a children’s fun run called the Rainbow Dash. The theme for this year is “Breathe Love - Breathe Easy!” The event has a dual purpose. First, it will help fund projects in the Octorara Area School District. Second, it is designed to raise awareness of carbon monoxide poisoning, which took the
lives of Carly Imbierowicz and Daulton “Daulty” Pointek on Nov. 22, 2014. The Octorara High School students died after carbon monoxide leaked into their car from a faulty exhaust. The 5K is noncompetitive and will wind its way through the course used by the Octorara cross-country team. The start and finish lines will be next to the parking area in front of the Octorara Intermediate School. Event-day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Zumba warmup at 8:50 a.m. The Rainbow Dash, which is free to children through second grade, will begin at 8:50 a.m. “The dash was introduced last year, and the youngsters had a blast during their own mini event,” said Carly’s mother, Donna Imbierowicz, whose family formed the Carly Imbierowicz Foundation, a nonprofit organization with the goal of saving lives by educating the public See Rainbow 5K pg 2
Participants will be doused with color during the fifth annual Octorara Angels Rainbow Run and Carbon Monoxide Awareness Event being presented at Octorara Intermediate School on June 1. The event will kick off the district’s OABEST Expo.
