GOLF OUTING

The Parkesburg Free Library will sponsor its 22nd annual golf tournament on Monday, June 17, at Tanglewood Manor Golf Club, 653 Scotland Road, Quarryville. Registration and lunch will begin at 1:30 a.m., with tee time at 1 p.m. The fee includes lunch, dinner, the use of a cart and green fees. Cash prizes will be awarded for best women’s and men’s team. The Solanco Historical Society will hold its next meeting on Saturday, May 18, at 1:30 p.m. at the society’s Archives Building, 1932 Robert Fulton Highway (Route 222), Quarryville. “The Kirks of Kirk’s Mills” will be presented by L. Harvey Kirk III, an engineer and family genealogist who has authored both technical and historical titles. Harvey will be available for a book signing after his presentation. Admission will be free and open to the public.

OABEST Expo To Highlight Students And Community By Marcella Peyre-Ferry

Octorara Junior-Senior High School’s seventh annual OABEST Expo will highlight the fine work being done by students alongside community groups and more. Fun and entertainment will fill the day, while visitors learn more about the possibilities available to local students. Set for Saturday, June 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., OABEST, which stands for Octorara Agriculture, Business, Environmental, Science and Technology, will take place on the Octorara School District campus at 226 Highland Road, Atglen.

Featured at the OABEST Expo will be food vendors, first responder demonstrations, crafts, live music, games, hayrides and many fun-filled activities. Event organizer Lisa McNamara, K-12 program administrator, said the event has grown from a small school activity to a communitywide activity. “It started off in one little hallway up by our ag tech wing. The main purpose back then was to emphasize the agriculture industry,” she said. “Last year, we brought in about 1,500 people. It has expanded to the outside, and it takes the whole high school campus. We have over 30 vendors. It’s a K-12 community See OABEST Expo pg 2

The Historical Society of Salisbury Township will meet on Thursday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at the Salisbury Township Building, 5581 Old Philadelphia Pike, White Horse. Interfaith Action Community (IAC), people from various churches and faith communities united to complete service projects in the community on May 4. More than 60 volunteers were grouped into eight different interfaith work teams. Servant Stage To Present “Jump, Jive, And Jukebox!”
