Library Friends To Host Victorian Tea By Marcella Peyre-Ferry
The Friends of the Moores Memorial Library will hold their annual fundraising tea on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. at Chantry Place, located adjacent to the library at 15 N. Bridge St., Christiana. Each year the tea has a theme to add to the experience. This year, the theme will be “Victorian Afternoon Tea,” corresponding with the currently popular PBS television series on Queen Victoria. The tea will include an assortment of savories and sweets, as well as various teas at each table, plus there will be a buffet table with additional items. There will also be a toast with sparkling cider. Also featured during the tea will be local storyteller Deborah Pieri. “She’s going to tell some kind of story that relates to the Victorian era and
(provide) an old-fashioned look at the world,” said Jeannette Kolb, Friends president. Each guest will receive a free ticket for the door prize drawings, with items chosen to relate to the Victorian theme. Dress for the day should be appropriate for an afternoon tea. Guests are invited to help set the mood by wearing Victorian attire or hats. Kolb emphasized that tea time attire may be either contemporary or period. “(People) like to get dressed up, though it’s optional,” she said. “The Victorian era is broad, so if they have any type of costume attire they want to wear, that’s appropriate.” Designed for teenagers and adults, the tea has become a popular event, which usually sells out. “This is the fourth year; I think people look forward to it,” Kolb said.
