Nearly 500 youngsters from local schools, as well as homeschool students, had an opportunity to learn about history through hands-on activities during Student Day on Sept. 6. The annual event was part of the Hay Creek Festival at Historic Joanna Furnace Iron Works in Morgantown. During the day, students were invited to complete a chore list, which asked them to take part in age-appropriate educational tasks such as washing clothes, kneading bread, making paper, carving wood and making candles. Those who completed their chore list earned a free wagon ride around the historic complex. In the Laundry Area, Hay Creek Valley Historical Association (HCVHA) volunteers washed clothes by hand with a washboard, as well a hand-powered washing machine that included a See Student Day pg 6
