ick off the holiday season at the 20th annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration in Market Square in Manheim. The event will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5. The rain date is Sunday, Dec. 6. Originated by the Manheim Lions Club and the Manheim Downtown Development Group, the tree lighting celebration is now organized by Manheim Brethren in Christ (BIC) Church. “We’re excited to continue the tradition of hosting the celebration as a way to share love, joy and hope with our community as we usher in the holiday season,” said Anna Horst, communications director for Manheim BIC. Attendees can expect a fun evening full of entertainment, she

Central High School Four Diamonds Mini-THON to support childhood cancer research.” Steps will be taken to ensure the event is safe and follows COVID-19 protocols, Horst said, adding that mask-wearing is recommended and that the outdoor setting will allow for adequate social distancing. “The welfare of our neighbors and community is a priority,” Horst stated, “so we will be taking precautions and following recommended guidelines to ensure the safety of everyone involved.” She noted that the square will be closed to traffic from 2 to 8 p.m. on the day of the event. Performers will include Cricket’s Performing Arts and Balance Dance, with caroling led by the Manheim BIC worship team. Participants will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets for a chance to “flip the switch” on the tree. “The winner gets to flip the switch that lights up the Christmas tree and gets a gift bag full of fun, locally sourced items,” Horst explained. “The proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Manheim
