Manheim Grace Brethren Plans Community Day By Chelsea Peifer

On Saturday, Aug. 3, area residents are invited to join the fun at the fifth annual Community Day on the back lawn at Manheim Grace Brethren Church, 333 E. High St., Manheim. People of all ages are welcome to attend the free, family-friendly event, which will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. A pig roast dinner will be served, along with hot dogs, side dishes, and beverages - all at no charge. Cotton candy and popcorn will also be available. A car show will take place in the church parking lot, and anyone is welcome to bring a special vehicle to display in the show. Other activities will include

a bounce house and inflatables, games, face painting, and bingo with food prizes. Organizer Warren Crills said that a Hungry Hungry Hippos inflatable, which allows people to compete in a life-size version of the popular children’s game, has been a crowd favorite in years past and will be back again this year. Crills explained that the annual event originated as a way for church members to reach out and share God’s love with the community. Last year, Crills said that torrential downpours the night before almost caused the event to be canceled, but organizers carried on and those who attended still had a good time. In years past, the event drew more than 200 attendees. See Community Day pg 2

A pig roast dinner, a car show, bingo, games, and children’s activities will all be part of the fifth annual Community Day at Manheim Grace Brethren Church from 3 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 3.
