SERVING THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES SINCE 1954
VOL LVII • NO 31
we are so thankful for our readers and the local businesses and organizations that help to make our communities thrive Coping With The Holidays BY DAYNA M. REIDENOUER
The year-end holiday season is typically considered a celebration of joy and gratitude, but for those who have lost loved ones, the season brings pain and mourning. In a recent newsletter, the Pathways Center for Grief & Loss recommended a few strategies for coping with the holidays. Plan ahead and prioritize. Evaluate what you need to personally take care of and what you can delegate. Ask if the holiday can be observed without a particular element if that would be easier for you. Live in the moment. Take each day one at a time and don’t look too far ahead. Find ways to get through each day. See Holiday Grief pg 8
Villages Plan Tree-Lighting Ceremonies BY DAYNA M. REIDENOUER
he villages of Lampeter and Willow Street are planning to celebrate the start of the Christmas season with tree-lighting ceremonies on Thursday, Dec. 3, and Friday, Dec. 4, respectively. Lampeter’s event will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in front of the West Lampeter Township municipal building, 852 Village Road, Lampeter. According to event organizer Anne Dunnenberger, the
T
ceremony will begin with a 20-minute concert by the Lampeter-Strasburg High School marching unit, followed by a performance by Melanie’s Miracles baton twirling troupe. Santa Claus is slated to arrive on a fire truck, and the Lampeter-Strasburg Community Band will wrap up the event. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served to all attendees, and treat bags will be available for children. Additionally, the Girl Scouts of the Hans Herr Service
Unit will provide take-and-make crafts for youngsters. The fire companies of Lampeter and Willow Street will participate in the event. Attendees should wear masks and practice social distancing. “We want to encourage people not to cluster but just to come over and watch the tree being lit,” Dunnenberger said. “We can still come together as a community but do it safely.” If the event is canceled, notice will
be posted at www.westlampeter.com. Willow Street’s tree-lighting ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 at the Willow Street Fire Company, 2901 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street. Santa Claus is slated to visit, but he will not be available for photographs. The event will take place outside. Updates about the event will be posted at the “Christmas Tree Lighting” event on the Willow Street Fire Company’s Facebook page.
