Wesley United Methodist Church (UMC), 40 W. Main St., Strasburg, is anticipating welcoming community members to three special events. A home business, craft, and antique show will be held in the fellowship hall and pole barn, beside and behind the church, respectively, on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. “It’s Small Business Saturday, and we want to encourage people to stay in town and shop,” said church member Kay Graybill. Nearly 30 vendors are slated to participate in the event, which is new to the church. Previously, the congregation had hosted yard sales in spring and
fall. The items at the Nov. 24 event will include kitchen products and cookware, handbags and totes, self-defense equipment, wooden items, knitwear, essential oils, surprise balls, jewelry, neck wraps, makeup and other skin care products, home décor, and gifts for men. Candy and baked goods will be offered, and the kitchen will sell barbecue, hot dogs, and snacks. The holiday festivities will continue with Breakfast With Santa, an event co-chaired by Graybill and Vickie Buller. The meal will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, in the fellowship hall. Children age 2 and under will be admitted free of charge, and one price has been set for everyone else.

“We are excited to welcome Alice Hoffman for this year’s Junior League of Lancaster author’s luncheon because she is a very well-known author whose books are familiar to a wide range of people,” said event chair Laura McGarry. “In addition, her newest novel, ‘The Rules of Magic,’ has received a lot of praise. It is exciting to welcome an author who has recently released such a great book, especially one that is tied to as familiar a story as ‘Practical Magic.’” Fans of Hoffman’s novels are invited to meet the author at the luncheon, which will be held on Friday, Nov. 30, at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square, 25 S. Queen St., Lancaster. Doors will open at 11 a.m., and the program will begin at noon. Attendees may purchase beverages and place bids in a silent auction prior to the sit-down meal. Early one morning, Dave DiFranco heard a horse and buggy clip-clop past
his home on East Main Street in Strasburg. A bit later, the steam whistle of an iron horse wafted on the breeze. The two sounds drew a smile to Dave’s face. See Holiday Home Tour pg 3
Strasburg Heritage Society member Lorna Mentzer (back) joined the DiFrancos, (from left) David Jr., Dave, and Debbie, to announce that the Strasburg Holiday Home Tour will be held on Dec. 1. The DiFrancos’ circa 1852 home will be one of the properties featured on the tour.
