Stage actor Lanny Millette is making his directorial debut with the latest Promise Players production, “The Money in Uncle George’s Suitcase,” which will be performed nine times between Friday, Oct. 26, and Sunday, Nov. 4, at Lampeter Church of the Brethren, 1900 Lampeter Road, Lancaster. “It is definitely challenging to be the director. There’s a lot more time involved - I’ve been busy recruiting sound and lighting technicians - and now I’m responsible for all aspects of the play,” Millette remarked. Millette started preparing for the production by reading through the script by Pat Cook an estimated 12 times even before auditions were scheduled. “I’m enjoying (the directorial process),” Millette said. “If you

pick the right actors, it comes together on its own.” He noted that the actors were nearly ready to go offbook by the second week in October. “The actors I have are giving life to their characters. I just see it getting better and better by show time,” he added. “The Money in Uncle George’s Suitcase” is a comedy drama involving Uncle George Plunkett (Wayne Rhinier) and his family members. The clan patriarch has invited the family to spend a weekend in his rustic cabin, where he surprises them by reading his will. The biggest surprise, however, is that a suitcase holding $480,000 is apparently hidden somewhere on the property. The family members react with pettiness, slander, and greed before being confronted with their bad behavior, but in a way that Millette hopes audience will find humorous.
