“THEN SINGS MY SOUL”
Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, will host “Then Sings My Soul,” an original production for the Red Caboose Motel’s Summer Entertainment Series, on Tuesday, Aug. 14, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the chapel. The performance will include a compilation of beloved hymns and songs inspired by the ministry of the Rev. Billy Graham. The event is pay-as-you-will and is open to the public. LancasterHistory.org will offer African-American Heritage Walking Tours on Saturday, Aug. 4. Tours will step off at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Participants will learn about abolitionists, Underground Railroad agents, preachers, and entrepreneurs in downtown Lancaster. Community Band Concert Will Honor Veterans The 26th annual veterans’ concert sponsored by the Strasburg Lions Club to honor America’s servicemen and women will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, on the lawn in front of the Strasburg borough office, 145 Precision Ave., Strasburg. In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the Strasburg Fire Company’s station, 203 Franklin St., Strasburg. The concert is open to the public free of charge. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the event. The Lampeter-Strasburg Community Band, conducted by Howard Boots, will present patriotic tunes, including “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “National Emblem March,” “Armed Forces: The Pride of America,” “Stars and Stripes Forever,” and
“God Bless America.” Special numbers will include “More Than You Know,” featuring Eric Hartranft on the alto saxophone, and “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now,” featuring Boots on the tenor saxophone. Other songs slated for the concert are “In the Sweet By and By,” “Sound Off March,” “Queen City March,” “Sabre Dance,” “Highlights From Sing,” and themes from “Pirates of the Caribbean.” The Lampeter-Strasburg (L-S) Community Band is celebrating its 26th anniversary in 2018. The band was formed in 1992 as a result of an adult education course. It performs at a variety of local venues throughout the year and currently has about 30 members. The Pet Pantry’s wish list includes cat and dog foods, both dry and canned; pet beds, leashes, and toys; and cleaning items like Dawn dishwashing detergent, disinfectant wipes, trash bags, and laundry detergent. Donations of cash or gift cards for other supplies will also be accepted. All donors will be rewarded with a hot dog. Doggie treats will be available for dogs that accompany their owners.
