Storm Riders: Standing Strong In The Face Of Addiction By Dayna M. Reidenouer
A new support group in southern Lancaster County has been formed to strengthen families facing addiction. The group has been named Storm Riders, a nod to the song “Riders on the Storm” by The Doors. “It’s for anyone in the family when they need support while riding the waves of the storm of fighting addiction,” explained Jackie Grimsey, who co-founded Storm Riders with Doug and Eileen Cwienk and Kevin and Sabrina Doyle. The group began meeting on May 1, and it has continued to meet on the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 7 to 8 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church (UMC), 101 S. Hess St., Quarryville. Although the group is hosted by Memorial UMC,
it is unaffiliated with the congregation. Storm Riders is not a faith-based group, but it does welcome folks who believe in a higher power. Eileen noted that Memorial’s pastor, the Rev. Chris Eden, has been fully supportive of Storm Riders, as the group aims to help community members heal, and the congregation’s hospitality team has provided snacks and greeters for meetings. Of the founding group, three individuals are in long-term recovery from addictions, and both Jackie and the Cwienks have lost children to addiction. As a result, they can speak to numerous aspects of addiction and the issues surrounding it. They emphasized, however, that they are not trained counselors. Storm Riders meetings are designed so attendees can share their stories, be encouraged, and receive recommendations for professional resources. See Storm Riders pg 9
Country, Hard Rock Are The Next “Sounds Of Strasburg” Lancaster County native Jess Zimmerman and her band will take a break from their national tour and perform as part of the Sounds of Strasburg concert series on Saturday, July 13, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held in the outdoor amphitheater at Strasburg Community Park, 151 Precision Ave., Strasburg. The Jess Zimmerman Band is known for a mix of show-stopping country and hard rock. The band released its debut album recorded in Nashville in 2016. The group has been traveling around the country presenting concerts at a variety of venues and events, including select NASCAR races. A talented singer and songwriter, Zimmerman has said that her music was influenced by country artists such as Martina McBride, Sara Evans, and Carrie Underwood. “ We know that after the Jess
Jess Zimmerman Zimmerman Band takes to our outdoor stage, Strasburgians and other concertgoers will have something to talk about,” said Mark Arbogast, president of the Strasburg Community Parks Foundation, which hosts the Sounds of Strasburg concert series. “Country and rock are popular here in Lancaster, and we know that this See Sounds Of Strasburg pg 4

Car Show Will Focus On End Of An Era By Ann Mead Ash
George Weaver, a member of the New Holland Band and one of the organizers of the annual New Holland Antique Car, Gas Engine, and Tractor Show, keeps up with happenings in the world of antique cars. “The premier auction (in the United States) is held in (Scottsdale,) Arizona, in January,” said
Weaver, referencing the Barrett-Jackson Auction. “The 1969 Camaro has taken off the last three years,” noted Weaver, adding that the 1967 Camaro used to be one of the more popular cars. “(The 1969) has jumped out ahead of the 1967, and the ’69 is now the hot one.” The 50th anniversary of cars built in 1969 will be the theme for the 38th See Car Show pg 8
