The Lancaster Contra Dance will take place on Saturday, March 16, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 321 W. Chestnut St., Lancaster, from 7 to 10 p.m. This is a group social dance for people of all ages with a different live band and caller each month. This month DeLaura Padovan will be the caller, and the band Devine Comedy will provide music. There is no need to bring a partner, as partners are exchanged after each dance. A workshop for new dancers will be held at 6:15 p.m. There is an admission fee, with a discount for students. Free admission will be offered to youths age 15 and under. The group welcomes new members from Strasburg as well as from Lancaster city and Lancaster County. Ten Lampeter-Strasburg (L-S) High School juniors will compete for the title of 2019 Pioneer of the Year in a pageantstyle event that will be held in conjunction with the school’s Model United Nations (UN) Talent Showcase. The event will take place at the L-S Performing Arts Center, 1600 Book Road, Lancaster, at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 15. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. To start the evening, the contestants will introduce themselves while wearing attire that most represents who they are, the school, or their heroes. During the second segment, the contestants will be reintroduced wearing retro 1980s outfits, while Model UN adviser Adam Titter and fellow teacher Matt Shockey relate humorous stories about each person. The contestants will then face off in a lip-sync contest featuring music from the 1980s. Finally, each contestant will be asked a question during the interview segment.

Showcasing A World Of Quilts 2019 marks the 10th year that the American Quilter’s Society (AQS) has hosted a QuiltWeek Show in Lancaster. The event will be held from Wednesday, March 27, to Saturday, March 30, at the Lancaster County Convention Center, 25 S. Queen St., Lancaster. “More than 15,000 people will meet in Lancaster, one of the oldest inland towns in the United States, to enjoy a four-day quilting and fiber arts showcase event,” said AQS executive show director Bonnie Browning. “Each QuiltWeek Show is about bringing quilters together to share ideas and inspiration, and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone to Lancaster.” AQS QuiltWeek 2019 includes six events across the country, with its See QuiltWeek Show pg 2

Between the segments, students from all schools in the L-S School District will perform as part of the Model UN Talent Showcase. From Lampeter Elementary, Camilla Mazzagatti, Chloe Miller, Keira Gavely, and Liah Kuhns will team up to perform a cheerleading routine, and Brielle Grove and Ashlyn Wise will deliver vocal solos. Performers from Hans Herr Elementary will include vocalist Quinn Flory, as well as sisters Audrey and Eileen Wieand, who will sing a duet. Martin Meylin Middle School performers will include dancer Tanner Emmerling and vocalists Alexandria Fernandez and Sarah Baum. The high school performers will include Zach Berger in a lightsaber routine, Dom Brazzle and Nick Smucker playing band instruments, Julie Stinson doing a baton-twirling routine, Jillian Pontz and Hannah Miller singing a duet, Laureli Newell and Kait Tordoff singing See Pioneer Of The Year pg 12
