Ascension Lutheran Church, 600 E. Penn Grant Road, Willow Street, will offer Joseph’s Table, a free community meal, on Thursday, March 19, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will include shepherd’s pie, cornbread, garden salad and dessert. The church offers the meal on the third Thursday of each month.

MONTHLY MEETING
The Strasburg Senior Citizens will hold their March meeting on Wednesday, March 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Strasburg Fire Hall, 203 W. Franklin St. The meeting will feature musical entertainment by country vocalist Rhonda Lee. Strasburg Senior Citizens, now in its 54th year, welcomes new members from not only Strasburg but also a wide area of Lancaster city and Lancaster County. The club offers fellowship, musical entertainment, an annual picnic, a Christmas banquet, bus tours, bingo, refreshments, and more. Visitors are always welcome. “Smoke On The Mountain” Is A Tale Of Faith, Music By Dayna M. Reidenouer
The singing Sanders family is heading into town … in North Carolina in June 1938. The family’s entre into
performing traditional and bluegrass gospel songs after a five-year hiatus is the subject of “Smoke on the Mountain,” the latest show to be produced by the Promise Players theater group.
UPCOMING CONCERT
The Lancaster Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will present “The Blind Organist of Notre-Dame: Louis Vierne” on Sunday, March 22, at 4 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church, 110 N. Mulberry St., Lancaster. The program will trace the tumultuous story of French organist and composer Louis Vierne (18701937) through a multimedia presentation that includes pictures, narration, and live organ music. The public is invited to attend. A suggested donation will be collected to support the Lancaster Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
Rock Ford Plantation, 881 Rockford Road, Lancaster, will host a family-friendly Irish Story Time on Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m. in the Rock Ford Barn in celebration of General Edward Hand’s Irish heritage . This onehour event will include an Irish-themed story, games, a craft, and a tasty treat. There is a cost per person. Reservations are required and limited to a maximum of 50 guests. The stage will be placed in the corner of the sanctuary and the chairs will be rearranged so that even those seated in the back corners will have a sightline to the action. The new stage location will accommodate a larger audience, too. Promise Players shows often sell out, and high attendance is anticipated for “Smoke on the Mountain.” “About 10 years ago, someone approached us and said, ‘You ought to do it.’ We looked into it, but it cost $3,000 plus the cost of scripts, music, and other production costs,” Promise Players director and founder Doreen Creighton recalled. “The same person came back to us two years ago and asked if they got people to help fund it, would we do the show.” See “Smoke On The Mountain” pg 10

“This could be your last time to have breakfast with Clifford. We’re thinking of switching to a new character next year,” said Kristin Fernitz, Strasburg Lions Club member and StrasburgHeisler Library executive director.
The third annual Breakfast With Clifford the Big Red Dog will be held from 6:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, at the Strasburg Fire Company, 203 Franklin St., Strasburg. Chamber Choir To Present Lenten Concert First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, 101 S. Decatur St., Strasburg, will host a Lenten concert on Saturday, March 14, at 7 p.m. The featured musical act will be The Grantham Consort choral group. “No More a Stranger: A Lenten Meditation on Redemption and Hope” will include choral performances, Scripture readings, congregational responses, the singing of hymns, and a brief devotional. The Grantham Consort is a chamber choir made up of 16 professional musicians from Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. The conductor is Dr. Joy Meade, who is the director of choral activities and an assistant professor of music at Messiah College. She earned her Master of Music in choral conducting from Westminster Choir College and her Doctor of Musical Arts in conducting from the University of Georgia.
