Learn, Set, Spike New Program Will Introduce Youngsters To Volleyball A new instructional volleyball program open to girls and boys in grades three through six in the Hempfield School District will start on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019. Hempfield Coed Elementary Volleyball practices will be held in the gymnasium of Centerville Middle School, 865 Centerville Road, Lancaster, on Tuesdays through Feb. 26, 2019. The program was created when two former volleyball players from a Hempfield High School state championship girls’ team, after successful college careers, approached the Hempfield Volleyball Parents Alumni Association (HVPAA) about starting a new initiative for elementary-age students. Brittany McMullen and Morgan Buterbaugh

both have graduated from college and now are teachers. Their goal is to provide basic instruction in the three basic skills - passing, setting, and hitting - all while helping youngsters develop a love for the game. Each session will run for two hours, and participants should bring water bottles. A registration fee has been set, with a maximum amount per family. Early registration is encouraged. A Facebook page has been created for the program, and readers may find it by visiting www.facebook.com/hempfieldevb. The sponsoring organization, HVPAA, is a nonprofit that was established in 2007 to support the sport of volleyball in the Hempfield community. The objectives were to provide support for the middle school and junior varsity programs and to create a scholarship program to help Hempfield High School volleyball See Volleyball Program pg 5
