Santa Caravan Is Coming Through Town! BY DAYNA M. REIDENOUER

ove over Cookies With Santa and make way for the Santa Caravan! Instead of inviting community members to visit the firehouse to spend time with the jolly old elf, Mountville Fire Company will reverse the process. “We had looked into doing (the cookie event) other ways, but the best thing we could think of was to bring Santa to the folks,” said fire company public information officer Peter Taraborelli. On Saturday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to 12:55 p.m. and again on Wednesday, Dec. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m., caravans of fire trucks and vehicles driven by fire company and Mountville Lions Club members will drive to various locations within the Mountville area. The groups will park at each site for about 25 minutes. “We tried to include a mix of spots that had a lot of parking and others in the heart of a neighborhood,” Taraborelli said. Santa Claus will ride on a fire truck and talk with guests from his

perch, but as the event has been planned to abide by CDC social distancing guidelines, he will not be available to pose for pictures or interact closely with anyone. Lions will share prepackaged treats with those who visit the stops, and fire company members will accept children’s letters to Santa. “Santa will take the letters back to the North Pole and read them there,” Taraborelli explained. The schedule of stops, a map, and a coloring page for letter writers may be downloaded at www.mountvillefire.com/santa. Taraborelli noted that two caravans will operate simultaneously on Dec. 12, with one taking the Red Route and the other taking the Green Route. There is no cost to visit with the Santa Caravan; however, the Mountville Fire Company is funded entirely by grants and donations, so contributions are always welcome. Readers may visit www.mountville fire.com/about/donate/ to support the fire company financially. “(Cookies With Santa) is usually

our years after her son, Lucas, was born prematurely, Carmina Rodriguez of Lancaster still remembers the encouragement offered by a family that was in the Women & Babies Hospital (WBH) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with her. Lucas was due on Feb. 23, 2017, but while attending a church service in October 2016, Carmina unexpectedly began experiencing contractions and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. She was admitted and spent a month in the hospital on bedrest before she gave birth via

The Greek word pronounced “poy-A-muh” appears in the Apostle Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus in the Christian Bible. “We are (God’s) workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,” reads the English Standard Version (ESV) of Ephesians 2:10. Poiema, which the ESV translates as “workmanship,” can also mean “masterpiece, artwork, handiwork, or craftsmanship.” “They’re metaphors that really resound with an artist,” said

Carmina’s husband, Ryan, was able to hold Lucas, who weighed only 2 pounds 4 ounces and was 13.5 inches long, and show him to Carmina. “I have no memory of seeing him at all,” Carmina said. “He was rushed right to the NICU. I was not allowed to hold him for a week.” Lucas’ growth was on track for a child at 23 weeks gestation, but he also had jaundice, so in addition to being on oxygen and enteral nutrition, Lucas had to stay under a special light.
