Saddlebag Riders Announce Third Biker Breakfast By Dayna M. Reidenouer

“We had 70 people last year. It went really well,” said Saddlebag Riders TEAM president Chuck Moore, reflecting on last year’s biker breakfast. It was the second breakfast the Motorcyclists for Jesus Ministries (MJM) members had held, but it was the first at Washington Boro Park, 2010 River Road, Washington Boro. “Since this is a popular riding route, we wanted to be a stop for them,” explained Saddlebag Riders member John Young. The park is located along the Susquehanna River, and the scenic view is attractive for both bikers and automobile drivers. People came from as far as Lebanon last year, John noted. This year’s breakfast will be held at the park on Saturday, July 6, from 7 to 11 a.m. Tank’s Taters will cook and sell a full breakfast, and folks may eat their meals in the pavilion. Members of the

“I’m a normal kid; I just skate,” 16-year-old Courtney Meyers commented. Indeed, at first glance, Courtney’s life does look typical: She just finished up her junior year at Hempfield High School, and she works two jobs. But a closer look reveals the athlete who is pursuing excellence in the sport of figure skating. Courtney’s parents, Larry and Carrie Meyers, both play ice hockey and have been involved with the Learn to Skate program at the Lancaster Ice Rink for decades. Thus, it was natural for Courtney to hit the ice early and participate in the program when she was 3 or 4 years old. By age 8, when she performed in her first ice show with the Red Rose Figure Skating Club, Courtney was hooked. See Local Skater pg 4

“I’ve always felt strongly about e m p o w e r m e n t fo r w o m e n ,” s a i d Kristi Napoleonis, who will lead two women’s self-defense workshops at Millersville Community Church (MCC) on Saturday, July 20. “I teach part crime prevention, part empowerment.” Napoleonis graduated from Penn State University with a degree in criminal justice, and she has taught self-defense classes for the National Rifle Association and for a private company. During the workshops on July 20, which will run from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m., Napoleonis will focus on simple moves that can disable an attacker. The one- or two-step moves may be performed by anyone regardless of age or ability. “As long as you can move, there’s

Kristi Napoleonis something you can do,” Napoleonis said. Napoleonis will discuss selfawareness as a way to avoid being seen as easy prey. She will also review self-defense tools and the use of pepper spray. See Self-Defense Class pg 6
