Own” will kick off the show with an exhibition performance at 7 p.m. “The United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps is renowned around the world for their esprit de corps, as they represent both the Marine Corps and the country. That has earned them the title of ‘The Commandant’s Own,’” Thomson remarked. After the exhibition, the five competing corps will perform. They will be evaluated by a panel of judges in the categories of Visual, Music, and Effect and various subcategories. Cash prizes will be given to the corps for their placements, with special awards for High Brass score, High Percussion score, High Visual score, Best Color Guard, and Best Drum Major. “What it comes down to is how well is the show designed, how well the performers perform the show, and how well the performers execute within the See Drum & Bugle Corps pg 5

After thrilling a near-capacity crowd at last year’s The Classic - A Drum & Bugle Corps Competition, the Reading Buccaneers and Hempfield Band Boosters Club will once again sponsor the event at Hempfield High School’s Georgelis Law Firm Stadium, 340 Mumma Drive, Landisville, on Saturday, July 6, at 7 p.m. There will be five corps in competition and three corps in exhibition. Three of the five competing corps finished among the top five in the 2018 Drum Corps Associates (DCA) World Championships, including the reigning champion, the Reading Buccaneers. A limited budget or scant vacation time does not have to mean a dismal summer. In fact, local folks may virtually go around the world in just four hours at the 24th annual Global Fair set for Saturday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 1719 Hans Herr House and Museum, 1849 Hans Herr Drive, Willow Street. Hosted by Eastern Mennonite Missions (EMM), Global Fair is an international missions and culture event, but it has been updated for 2019. It will still include information about other cultures, opportunities to talk to mission workers and hear their stories about God at work around the world, international food from a wide variety of countries, and activities for children. “Ride it, push it, tow it - we’ll accept it,” said Lancaster County Cruisers member Gary Heim of Willow Street, inviting owners of cars, trucks, and motorcycles to enter the club’s 20th annual car show on Saturday, July 6. In addition to no requirement for the

vehicle to be operational, there are no rules regarding age, make, or model. “Bring anything; we don’t discriminate,” said club vice president Jack Parke of New Providence. “We get some cool hot rods and rat rods,” club member Barry Harsh of Mountville commented. “Even some barn finds,” Parke added. The DCA World Champion Reading Buccaneers, along with the Hempfield Band Boosters Club, will host The Classic - A Drum & Bugle Corps Competition at Hempfield High School’s stadium on July 6.

Moon Jung Kang from Ilsan, South Korea, performed a royal court dance in a brightly colored hanbok at Eastern Mennonite Missions’ 2018 Global Fair in Willow Street. This year’s event will be held on July 13.
