The fourth annual Blueberry Breakfast to benefit CASA will take place on Saturday, March 16, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Community Fellowship Church, 200 Bethel Drive, Lancaster. The breakfast will honor the memory of Nicole Mathewson, a Brownstown Elementary School teacher who lost her life in December 2014. Proceeds from the breakfast will go toward supporting Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Lancaster County. CASA of Lancaster County’s purpose is to provide qualified and compassionate court-appointed volunteer advocacy for children of abuse and neglect in the belief that every child deserves a safe, nurturing, and permanent home. The 1852 Herr Family Homestead, located at 1756 Nissley Road, Landisville, is seeking docents and receptionists for the 2019 season. The house will be open on weekends from April through October, with tours available from 1 to 4 p.m. Docents and receptionists will be asked to volunteer approximately every five weeks during the season. Protein Drive To Highlight First Pitch Night The community is invited to attend the annual First Pitch/Meet the Team night hosted by the Hempfield High School Baseball Booster Club. The members of this year’s baseball team will be on hand to interact with the public during the event, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 15, in the cafeteria of the high school, 200 Stanley Ave., Landisville. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and adults will be charged a small fee for admission. Children will be admitted free of charge. Complimentary hot dogs, soft pretzels, chips, desserts, and beverages will be available.
Children may play games, and adults may enter to win prize drawings and silent auction items. All of the prizes and auction lots have been donated by local businesses and families. Some of the items include tickets to New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates games, passes to an amusement park, a bus trip, a necklace and bracelet from a local jeweler, and restaurant gift cards. The proceeds from the event will e n a b l e t h e b o o s t e r c l u b t o p a y fo r baseball players’ winter indoor training facilities, team equipment, team meals, and other expenses, said club co-chair Cris LaBarbera. A Touch Of The Irish For Scouts’ Spaghetti Dinner By Dayna M. Reidenouer
The timing of Boy Scout Troop 64’s annual spaghetti dinner is such that this year’s event will have an extra bit of flair. The all-you-can-eat meal will be held at Salem United Church of Christ of Rohrerstown, 2312 Marietta Ave., Lancaster from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, which is the day before St. Patrick’s Day. In honor of the Irish holiday, an array of shamrock-themed crafts will be available for children to make while adults socialize.
