ANNIVERSARY GATHERING
A Korean War veterans memorial service
The 35th annual Mount Gretna Tour of Homes and Gardens will take place on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The self-guided walking tour will offer a glimpse into the architecture and style of homes in a variety of Mount Gretna neighborhoods. Sites include tiny summer cottages, weekend getaways, and year-round “winterite” homes. Participants may also take a trolley ride to one home near the lake. Tour attendees will see how people have transformed the cottages to accommodate modern life while keeping the structures’ charm. An iconic home from a previous year is back on the tour. The cottage was built in 1903 by a New York industrialist and has one of the largest porches in town. Rumor has it that this house was designed on the back of a napkin by a famous architect. The tour is sponsored by Snitz Creek Cabinet Shop. Proceeds will benefit Gretna Music, an organization that has been presenting music in central Pennsylvania for more than 44 years. To purchase tickets in advance, readers may call Gretna Music at 717-361-1508, visit www.gretna music.org, or stop by any Stauffers of Kissel Hill location, the Gretna Emporium in Mount Gretna, or Snitz Creek Cabinet Shop, 2020 Cornwall Road, Lebanon. Tickets will also be available for purchase on the day of the tour for a higher fee. These tickets will be sold outside the Mount Gretna post office on Princeton Avenue and in front of the Mount Gretna Playhouse at 200 Pennsylvania Ave.
A variety of homes will be included in the 35th annual Mount Gretna Tour of Homes and Gardens on Saturday, Aug. 3.

Palmyra Resident Runs To Support Cancer Patients In October 2018, Ken Cook was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer). Since then, Ken has aimed to keep his life as normal as possible and is doing well on his doctors’ course of action. Since Ken’s diagnosis, he and his family - including his wife, Chris, and their daughter, Megan - have become aware of many cancer patients without health benefits or support systems. To make a difference in their lives, Megan, a 24year-old Palmyra resident, signed up to run the Philadelphia Love Run Half Marathon on March 31. The Love Run raises money for efforts against cancer in the Philadelphia area, but Megan also wanted to touch the lives of cancer patients closer to home. She contacted the Hershey Medical Center and set up a fundraising site where friends and family could donate to the Hope for Healing Fund. That fund was intended to directly benefit patients locally who are dealing with having cancer and are also faced with challenges See Runner pg 3
