SPRING CONCERT
Bear Creek School, 1459 Sheaffer Road, Elizabethtown, will present its spring band concert on Thursday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at the school. This will be director Phyllis Emery’s final concert, as she is retiring from teaching after 30 years with the Elizabethtown Area School District. The concert will feature the fourth-grade band, the combined fifth- and sixth-grade bands, and the school’s jazz band. The repertoire for the evening will include numerous pieces the students have been learning throughout the year. Additionally, several small groups will perform prior to the concert, either in the lobby or on the stage. Admission will be free and open to the public. MONTHLY CELEBRATION
E-Town Nights: Second Friday, an initiative of the Elizabethtown Area Chamber of Commerce, will take place on May 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to visit local shops, restaurants, and service providers. GUEST SPEAKER
Elizabethtown Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Business Start-Up Support Group meeting on Monday, May 20, from 8:30 to 10 p.m. at the Chamber office, 3 N. Market St. Local entrepreneurs will gather to share tips, concerns, and experiences. The featured guest, Dr. Jason Herres, from a local dental clinic, will speak about employees. Topics will include inheriting, managing and motivating a staff of one or more.

Students Unveil Meaningful Mural blueprint, communicating with teachers or administrators, and organizing time during class and outside of school to work on fulfilling their vision. Gracie and Corrie decided to team up for the project and after brainstorming ideas settled on the possibility of creating a mural inside of EAHS. Corrie had visited the high school in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the movie “High School Musical” was filmed and liked how the building had an entire hallway covered in colorful murals. What started as a class project in the fall semester for Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS) seniors Gracie Mummau and Corrie Baker ended up extending into spring, and now the mural that the students enlisted the help of classmate Katie Bomboy to create will be on display for many years to come. Students who take the Mind and Body elective course taught by Shane Kargo in the fall are responsible for completing a semester project of their choosing as individuals or small groups. “It needs to be an original idea and something to help the school or make a difference in the community,” Kargo explained. In addition to choosing a project and mission, the students take ownership of conducting research, creating their own assessment rubric, setting guidelines, developing a

Over the years, Heart of Lancaster Arts and Craft Show founder and chairperson Marilyn Hobday received numerous requests from exhibitors for a spring show to be added into the calendar in addition to the traditional fall event.

“Finally after enough prodding, I decided to go for it,” said Hobday with a laugh. “Our main focus for this first year is just getting a lot of quality art work,” Hobday continued. “It’s going to be a fun show.
