Elizabethtown Historical Society, 57 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown, will host a program by Steven Torrico on Tuesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. Torrico will present “The History of the Lincoln Train and its Connection to Elizabethtown.” Torrico is general superintendent of the Harrisburg, Lincoln and Lancaster Railroad. On April 22, 1865, Abraham Lincoln’s funeral train passed through what is today the Stone Gables Estate. Attendees will learn about that passage and hear about a re-enactment of that event planned for April and about a replica of an 1860s train built for the re-enactment. CHICKEN CORDON BLEU
St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 27 E. Main St, Mount Joy, will serve a chicken cordon bleu dinner on Sunday, March 10, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The dinner will include chicken cordon bleu, oven roasted red potatoes, a vegetable, applesauce, rolls and butter, dessert, and beverages. There is a cost for the dinner, but reservations are not necessary. However, groups of eight or more persons are asked to contact Janet Lehman at 717-653-4189.

CPYU To Celebrate 30th Anniversary The Elizabethtown-based international ministry Center for Parent/Youth Understanding (CPYU) will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a banquet and auction on Friday, April 12, at Shady Maple Banquet Center, 129 Toddy Drive, Earl Earl. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction of various items. A buffet dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a presentation by CPYU president and founder Dr. Walt Mueller. The program will include updates on CPYU’s various ministry initiatives, followed by a live auction. Items up for bids will include a vintage jukebox, tickets to a Florida theme park, entertainment items, gift baskets, vacation getaways, jewelry and watches, purses, a Discovery flight in an airplane at Lancaster Airport, quilts, artwork, children’s items and toys, various food baskets, books, collectibles, electronics,
home furnishings, housewares and kitchen items, various lawn equipment items, sporting event tickets, and gift certificates to area attractions, restaurants, and stores throughout Lancaster County and Pennsylvania. Some of the sports items up for bids at the live and silent auctions will include memorabilia signed by Hank Aaron, Yogi Berra, Frank Robinson, Pete Rose, Jim Bunning, Eddie Mathews, Willie Stargell, Tug McGraw, Juan Marichal, Carlos Ruiz, John Kruk, Tony Perez, Scott Kingery, Rhys Hoskins, Bernie Parent, Brett Favre, Michael Irvin, Warren Moon, Gale Sayers, Mike Quick, Donovan McNabb, and Saquon Barkley. The banquet is open to adults only. There is no cost to attend the banquet, but reservations must be made by Friday, March 29. There will be an opportunity to support CPYU’s ministry. To

At the end of each year, Lee Deremer, founder of LifeCycles, creates a presentation that shows each young man who participates in the program how far he has ridden a bicycle by taking part in regular weekly and added challenge rides. “We hold an end-of-the-year celebration (with) an awards ceremony,” said Deremer. “I list all the boys who have participated by name on a map.” Deremer uses the map to create a fictional trip for each boy. “From Lancaster to State College (equals) 160 miles of riding,” explained Deremer. “(Some boys) go as far as Fargo, North Dakota, or Miami,” Deremer is especially proud of one participant who is slated to See LifeCycles pg 5

Donegal Fish and Conservation Association will hold its 54th annual Spring Outdoor Show on Saturday, March 16, at the Maytown Fire Company. The Donegal Fish and Conservation Association (DFCA) in cooperation with the Donegal Experiential Education Program (DEEP) will hold its 54th annual Spring Outdoor Show on Saturday, March 16, from
8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maytown Fire Department, 160 E. High St., Maytown. The event will include a pork barbecue, with the pork again cooked by DFCA member Harvey Schademan. See Outdoor Show pg 9
The Friends of the Elizabethtown Public Library presented a check for more than $20,000 to the library board members on Feb. 19. The Friends group is an auxiliary group that raises money for the library through its book sales and its bookstore located at the library. Scott, a Lancaster architect, and titled “Early American Lancaster County Architecture: The First One Hundred Years, 1710-1810.” The society will also hold a breakfast and bake sale on Saturday, March 16, from 7 to 10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, North Queen Street, Maytown.
