Toys For Our Tribe Will Collect Gifts for Children BY CATHY MOLITORIS
hree Mount Joy business owners are hoping to make the holidays a little brighter for local children this year. The Toys for Our Tribe toy drive, organized by Kelly Johnson, Karen McCrady and Sheri Smoker, will collect and distribute gifts to children from newborns to 16-year-olds. “As small business owners, we have seen how the community has supported us, so we wanted to do something to give back to the community,” said Johnson, owner of Kelly Johnson Photography. Johnson approached the social worker at Donegal School District, who connected her with Mount Joy Helping Services. Families that rely on the organization’s services, which include a food and clothing bank, will be eligible to receive toys through the drive. The more we can give kids, the better.” Toys for Our Tribe collection boxes are located at The Craft Factory, 206 E. Main St.; Made With Love Not Gluten Bakery, 76 E. Main St.; and Dutch Country Hand-Rolled Soft Pretzels, 26 W. Main St. “We chose businesses that have longer hours and are open more often to allow people more chances to donate,” McCrady stated. The organizers are seeking new, unwrapped toys for boys or girls, and they encourage donors to follow the downtown Mount Joy Facebook page, www.facebook.com/ DowntownMountJoy, for the most current list of needs. The deadline for toy donations is Saturday, Dec. 12. They are also looking for wrapping paper, tape and monetary donations. Gifts will be distributed on Saturday, Dec. 19, at the reception center at Sheetz Funeral Home. “To receive a gift, a family needs to be registered through Mount Joy Helping Services,” Johnson said.
