The final Music in Memorial Park will take place on Sunday, Aug. 19, at Memorial Park, 101 Marietta Ave., Mount Joy. The Bainbridge Band will perform. The Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce will offer a free ice cream social while supplies last. Food and ice cream will be available at 5 p.m., and the concert will follow from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Attendees may bring chairs and blankets. FREE BREAKFAST

The Mount Joy Area Historical Society, 120 Fairview St., Mount Joy, will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m. Guest speaker Wes Swanson will discuss the history of brick making in Lancaster County from the Colonial period to the Armstrong era. Swanson is an eighth-grade American history teacher at Centerville Middle School. The society meetings include a brief business meeting followed by the program. Refreshments will be served. Katherine Leaman has been involved with the Marietta Community House for more than 10 years, and she said it all started with a love story. “I went on the Marietta Candlelight Tour and then to an after-party at my now-husband’s home,” recalled Leaman. The pair hit it off, dated, and were married within a year - and have been committed to each other and to investing in the town of Marietta ever since. In April, the Marietta Community House welcomed Leaman as the new president at its annual board of directors meeting. Leaman served on the

board for more than 10 years, most recently as vice president, and she praised former president Karen Sullivan for her successful tenure and ongoing dedication to the Marietta Community House. “I’ve watched it transform under Karen’s leadership,” said Leaman, noting that Sullivan spearheaded efforts that have made the Marietta Community House into something that everyone can be proud of. “We’ve gotten beyond fixing the building and are seeing some progress,” Leaman remarked. “I’m thrilled (for the Community House) to be a good neighbor. I think everyone who’s ever lived in Marietta becomes passionate about the See Marietta Community House pg 4

The Marietta Community House welcomed Katherine Leaman as its new president. Tickets are available for a drawing for a trip for two to Ireland, with all proceeds benefiting the Community House. A winner will be announced at “An Emerald Evening,” a dinner and benefit auction set for Sept. 22 at McCleary’s Public House.

PICNIC AND MAGIC SHOW

St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 27 E. Main St., Mount Joy, will host a community picnic and magic show on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. The event will be held on the front lawn of the church. The picnic will begin with free games and food, including hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, chicken corn noodle soup, snow cones, and beverages. The magic show by Erick Hershey will begin at 5:30 p.m. Following the magic show, bingo will be played. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the fellowship hall. The public is invited. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Call the church office at 717-653-5493.

What was once a segment of underused pavement beside the playground at Park Elementary School in Columbia has transformed into a thriving garden this year as The Edible Classroom brought students and volunteers
