Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marietta and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Maytown will host a vacation Bible school (VBS) together this year at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1290 River Road. Beginning with a picnic dinner on Sunday, July 21, at 6 p.m., the program, themed “God’s Superheroes,” will explore characteristics of being a superhero for God. Each evening of the weeklong VBS will end at 8 p.m. The week will conclude on Thursday, July 25, with an ice cream social. “God’s Superheroes” is open to all families with children from prekindergarten through sixth grade. Music in the Park programs will be presented weekly in the gazebo in Fuhrman Park, Rock Point Road, Maytown. On Sunday, July 21, at 7 p.m., the program will feature Short Notise, whose members hail from across the Mid-Atlantic region and perform a variety of bluegrass music. Main Street Mount Joy (MSMJ) will hold the 17th annual Taste of Mount Joy Cruisin’ Cuisine Car Show on Saturday, July 27, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Both sides of Main Street from Manheim Street to Barbara Street will be lined with vehicles, as well as local restaurants and vendors offering food and beverage selections to purchase. Admission is free for spectators. The car show will showcase more than 200 vehicles in the following classes: antique, classic, muscle car, street rod, Corvette, motorcycle, truck, emergency response, and custom. To register a vehicle in advance, interested individuals may visit www.mainstreetmountjoy .com/carshow. Registration on the day of the event will open at 9 a.m. at the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center, 432 Old Market St., Mount Joy.
Trophies will be awarded for Best of Show, People’s Choice, and Participants’ Choice, and there will be multiple business sponsors’ choice awards. An awards presentation is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The Kracker Beez will perform live music throughout the show. The Mountville-based band, featuring Beverly Reece on drums and vocals, Phil Kresge on bass and vocals, and Greg Pencheff on guitar and vocals, plays a variety of classic rock, pop, and rhythm and blues from the 1960s, ’70s, and ’80s. Food vendors will include Bube’s Brewery, Two Cousins Pizza, The Bake Shoppe at Country Table, River Street Sweets - Savannah’s Candy Kitchen, and other local restaurants. In conjunction with Cruisin’ Cuisine, the Norlanco-Rheems Kiwanis Club will host a free pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at First See Cruisin’ Cuisine pg 7
