Couple To Bicycle Across Country By Chelsea Peifer
Bicycling across the United States has always been a dream of Erin Steinweg’s, and this summer that dream will come to fruition as she and her fiancé, Garrett Collins, make the trek across the country. The pair will fly to the West Coast in August to set off on a self-supported bicycle ride from Eugene, Ore., to Yorktown, Va. Steinweg and Collins will be on the road for approximately 60 days to cover a total of 4,200 miles - all while carrying their own tents, sleeping bags, and other supplies. “We weren’t sure when we would get to do it, because there are three main things you need to do a trip like this: time, money, and health,” explained Collins. “But we both had time off and everything else just See Lifecycles pg 6

James C. Landis To Speak On Haldeman History At Victorian Tea

Walking Through Infertility And Grief Together By Chelsea Peifer
In 2010, Michelle McGovern went through the devastating agony of her first child, a son named Liam, being stillborn at 21.5 weeks. “They said it’s like being struck by lightning; it can never happen again,” recalled Michelle. As she and her husband, Mike, grieved the loss of their son, a co-worker whose daughter had experienced the loss of a child through a miscarriage told Michelle about Sarah’s Laughter, a nonprofit that offers faith-based support to couples struggling with infertility or the death of a baby. Holistic Fun In The Great Outdoors

A Victorian Tea will be served at the historic Haldeman Mansion in Bainbridge on July 20, with proceeds benefiting the heating fund for the building. Local historian James C. Landis will present on “The Haldemans Down Yonder: Professor Haldeman and His Kin at Chickies and Columbia.”
The Haldeman Mansion Preservation Society (HMPS) will host a Victorian Tea on Saturday, July 20, at the mansion at 230 Locust Grove Road, Bainbridge. A high tea will be served at 4 p.m. on beautiful china in the ballroom. The menu will include peach and cottage cheese salad, gazpacho soup, cucumber tea sandwiches, pimento cheese tea sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, and scones with lemon curd, raspberry jam, and peach jam. All of the food will be served with a variety of hot teas and iced mint tea. An assortment of homemade desserts will also be part of the meal, including See Haldeman History pg 13
The Horn Farm Center for Agricultural Education in Hellam will host “Where the Wild Things Grow,” for children ages 6 to 12, on Thursdays from July 18 to Aug. 8. Junior Naturalist Training, with separate sessions for students ages 9 to 11 and 12 to 14, is scheduled for July 29 to 31.

A Campaign For Lifecycles From Coast To Coast
SUMMER CAMP
will host a creative arts mini-camp from Monday, July 29, to Friday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon in the training room at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster. The camp will include instruction and hands-on experience with different art mediums and techniques and will explore ideas about careers in the arts. For 4-H members, projects can be used for Showcase. A fee has been set, and 4-H membership is not required.
