To celebrate being at its current location for 20 years, the MilanofSchock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, is throwing a B i r t h d a y B a s h fo r t h e w h o l e community. The 20th Birthday Bash is set to take place from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, outside on the library grounds. Admission is free. “ We hope people come out and spend as much time as they can,” said Milanof-Schock Library operations coordinator Kim Beach. Free cake and ice cream will be served, and additional food will be available to purchase from local church and civic groups, including french fries from the Mount Joy
Members of the Southern Pennsylvania Amateur Radio Club (SPARC) will be participating in the national Amateur Radio Field Day exercise on Saturday, June 22, from 2 to 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to noon at 1715 Breneman Road, Manheim. This event is open to the public free of charge. For more than 100 years, amateur radio (sometimes called ham radio) has allowed people from all walks of life to experiment with electronics and communications techniques, as well as provide a free public service to their communities during a disaster, all without needing a cellphone or the internet. Field Day will demonstrate ham radio’s ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location and create an independent communications network. Live entertainment will include performances by jazz band Sound of Roses, the Johnny Presto Stage Show, Paula’s School of Baton, martial arts students from Rainbow’s End Youth Services (REYS), and vocalist Sandy Heisey.
