New Theater Company Sets Auditions By Francine Fulton

Revival Productions, a new nonprofit theater company in Coatesville, recently announced that it will hold open auditions for its upcoming performance of “Miscast Broadway.” The show will feature traditional Broadway tunes by unexpected performers. “‘Miscast Broadway’ is a show where actors, singers and dancers perform popular Broadway songs, but with a twist - the song the performer chooses must not match their type, age or gender,” explained Vinnie Zambuto, the theater’s director of marketing. He cited an example of an older woman or man singing “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” which is normally performed by young orphans in the Broadway play “Annie.” “(The goal) is to mix things up and be a little silly,” he said. Auditions will be held on Thursday, Aug 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the

Gordon Early Literacy Center, 351 Kersey St., Coatesville. Those wishing to audition must register in advance at www.revival-productions.com/auditions. “The revue concept is popular among theaters all around the country,” noted Zambuto. “We will put together a show of people singing and dancing. It will be individual performances, but everyone will rehearse together and create a cohesive show.” Performers are asked to prepare two 32-bar cuts, an up-tempo tune and a ballad unlike their normal “type.” Performers should be prepared to dance, if asked. If needed, a dance call will take place at approximately 8:15 p.m. An accompanist will be provided. The performers must be age 16 or older and must prepare a dance or tune that is family-friendly. “They should have musical ability and a theater performance background,” Zambuto noted. “Miscast Broadway” will be See Auditions pg 2

GRIEF SEMINAR

Rotary Club of Thorndale-Downingtown members helped Hopewell United Methodist Church with a project to fashion meeting rooms out of a shipping container that will be sent to Mosaic, an organization that helps orphaned children in South Africa. Participants included (back, from left) Rotary members Elva Wright, Keny Holman, Ken Simon, (front) Evelyn Samuels, Bill Keen, Laurie Keen and Mike Listmeier; project chair Tony Brantzeg; and Mosaic USA president Karen Ladd Baker.

In the summer of 2016, a shipping container called the HOOP was transformed by volunteers at Hopewell United Methodist Church (UMC) in Downingtown into a kitchen and meeting room. The container was also filled with donations before being sent to Mosaic, an organization that helps orphaned children in South Africa. The container was added to the Mosaic Paarl Community Center, which already consisted of eight previously renovated shipping containers that were attached together. This summer, local volunteers are again renovating a shipping container, which is currently situated in the far corner of Hopewell UMC’s parking lot. Once completed, HOOP 2 will be made into two rooms to be used for job training for parents who have adopted or are

Rotary member Elva Wright, who is also member of Hopewell UMC, said that the Rotary Club is involved with local and international charities. “The motto of Rotary is ‘Service Above Self,’ and with that each Rotary Club has a local emphasis and an international emphasis,” she stated. “We’re always looking for projects.” The group was welcomed by church member Tony Brantzeg, who is project chair for HOOP 2. He displayed a photo of the community center built out of shipping containers. “A couple of years ago, we renovated a 40-foot container here and we called it the HOOP, which
