EASTER EGG HUNT
Chester Valley Grange, 3285 Phoenixville Pike, Malvern, will host an Easter egg hunt on Sunday, March 22, for children ages 2 to 10. Following the hunt, there will be arts and crafts for children, photos with the Easter Bunny and a photo booth. Attenees should bring their own baskets and cameras. The movie “Bright Victory,” starring Arthur Kennedy and Peggy Dow, which was filmed in Phoenixville in 1950, will be shown at the Phoenixville Public Library, 183 Second Ave., Phoenixville, on Monday, March 30, at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will also learn about the film’s production and the Valley Forge Army Hospital, where the story takes place. The free program will be presented by Susan Marshall from the Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area. Seniors from area high schools were recognized as Good Citizens by members of the Chester County Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) during a ceremony held on March 9 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Chester. Recipients are Cole Walker, Avon Grove High School; Ralph Lintelman, B. Each high school senior who was presented a Good Citizens Award from the Chester County Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was given an opportunity to talk about some of their experiences at school and with community service, along with their future plans, as part of a ceremony held on March 9 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Chester. “These students are very bright, and they are very multitalented,” said Beverly Lawler, chairperson of the Good Citizens Committee. Downingtown-Thorndale Regional Chamber of Commerce has announced the opening of nominations for its 2020 Civic Awards honoring the Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year, and Community Organization of the Year. Awards will be presented at the Chamber’s 75th annual dinner on Thursday, April 30, at the Downingtown Country Club. Based on the success of its True Swing Softball Camp for girls and the True Serve Volleyball Camp for both boys and girls, Pequea Baptist Church, located at 6062 Old Philadelphia Pike, Gap, has decided to form the True Goal Hockey League for both boys and girls in grades one through six. “We have enjoyed connecting with the community in the different sports programs,” said Doug Kauffman, director of children’s outreach ministries at See Hockey pg 5
Nate Bird is suited up to take part in the Pequea Baptist Church True Goal Hockey League, which will be held at the church beginning Tuesday, March 31. The program is open to area students in first through sixth grades.
HIGH 5 Soccer, a free program for youths with special needs offered by the Glenmoore Eagle Youth Association (GEYA), will host “HIGH 5K for Connor,” featuring a 5K and fun run, on Sunday, April 19, at Fellowship Field No. 1, located at 241 Fellowship Road, Chester Springs. The purpose of the event is to raise funds for Connor Dobbyn, 11, who has been diagnosed with Sanfilippo syndrome Type C, also known as childhood Alzheimer’s. Sanfilippo syndrome Type C is a rare, progressive and incurable genetic disorder that primarily affects the brain cells and spinal cord. Currently, there is no cure. “Our goal is to raise funds to start a clinical trial for a cure for Sanfilippo Type C and give Connor a chance to live,” stated Jenn Wagner, who is the
