The Downingtown Area Ministerium recently announced the schedule for this year’s Lenten worship services and church luncheons. As part of the annual program, area churches will offer 30-minute ecumenical prayer services on Wednesdays during Lent at noon, beginning on March 4, the week following Ash Wednesday. A service will also take place at noon on Good Friday, April 10. The services will not offer Communion, but prayer, hymns and a homily are included. In addition, the hosting church provides a community luncheon immediately following the worship service. There will be no luncheon on Good Friday. The services are free and open to the community and a freewill offering will be received. All donations collected during the worship services for 2020 will be

presented annually by the Chester County Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) were asked to imagine what it would be like to be a passenger on the Mayflower, the English cargo ship that brought the Pilgrims from Plymouth, England, to the New World in 1620. The essay topic was chosen in honor of the 400th anniversary of the voyage of the Mayflower and the founding of the Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts. The winners of the contest who successfully related the spirit of that voyage into their essays were honored during a DAR See DAR pg 2

Association Promotes Art In Chester County By Francine Fulton

Classes, free workshops and exhibitions are some of the programs offered by the Chester County Art Association (CCAA), a nonprofit organization with the goal to “educate, inspire and connect” the people of Chester County through the arts. “(The CCAA) is all about promoting the arts, creativity and creative thinking,” said CCAA executive director Wendy Kershner. “I think our world always needs more creative thinkers and creative problem solvers. We are (providing) a really good service.” While CCAA’s main gallery is located in West Chester, the organization also See Art Association pg 5

Marlene Miller, a senior at West Chester University and a spring intern with the Chester County Art Association (CCAA), invites the community to check out the CCAA Exton Square Studio Gallery, which offers a variety of items for sale made by CCAA members. Weekly art classes and specialty workshops are also offered at the site.
