Penn State Master Gardeners
By Ann Mead Ash
According to Dara Slater, director of the Gerald G. Huesken Middle School play, “Hurricane Smith and the Garden of the Golden Monkey,” by Tim Kelly, the show has graced the school stage at least twice before - first in 1999 and again in 2008. Slater has chosen to present the story again because she enjoys the humor and nostalgia associated with the Indiana Jones-style comedy. “It’s a really funny plot and a funny premise,” shared Slater. “Hurricane Smith and the Garden of the Golden Monkey” will be staged at the school, 500 Mount Sidney Road, Lancaster, on Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. each evening. Conestoga Valley School District-area senior citizens who wish to attend may do so for free on Thursday, See “Hurricane Smith” pg 5

Sweet Pea Plans First Fundraising Skate By Ann Mead Ash
Stephanie Paige Cole, founder of Sweet Pea Project, an organization that offers comfort and support to families that have experienced the death of a baby, wanted to hold a fundraiser that would be inclusive of the entire community. “Our board members … were thinking of things our children like to do that would be a fun way to get the community involved,” said Cole. After a little brainstorming, the group decided to hold the first Sweet Pea Skate at The Castle Roller Skating, 1400 Elm Ave., Lancaster, on Saturday, April 4. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and a special low admission price will be charged until 7:30 p.m. All funds

Working with the Calvary choir of about 90 and orchestra with up to 40 members, Hatridge will present his senior project, titled “Thirsty? Come See “Thirsty?” pg 12

A year ago, Salem Hellers Evangelical Reformed Church member Jenni Simmons conceived the idea of holding a yard sale in a revelation she refers to as a “God moment.” Simmons partnered with fellow church member Lorin Wortel, and the two worked with others in the congregation to hold the first indoor yard sale. The successful sale raised more than $8,000 toward replacing the roof on the nearly 300-year-old church. This year, the large stained glass window on the north side of the sanctuary is in need of restoration, and Simmons and Wortel have partnered again to organize the second indoor yard sale to See Yard Sale pg 4
Salem Hellers Evangelical Reformed Church members display items that will be sold at the church’s second indoor yard sale to help raise funds for building maintenance. This year’s sale will be held at the church, 2555 Horseshoe Road, Lancaster, on March 20 and 21.
