BIBLE SCHOOL

Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, 1907 Hollywood Drive, York, will host a free vacation Bible school program, “God’s Good Creation,” from Monday, July 30, through Thursday, Aug. 2. A free, childfriendly dinner will be served each evening at 5:30 p.m., and the program will run from 6 to 8 p.m. The program is open to children age 3 through fifth grade. CHILDREN’S PROGRAM

2710 Kingston Road, York, will host a vacation Bible school from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, through Thursday, Aug. 2. The theme will be “Peace Lab,” and all children ages 4 to 12 are welcome to attend. Children will watch dramas, sing songs, play games, enjoy snacks, make crafts, and do other activities as they hear Bible stories and learn about peace. The event is free of charge, although an offering project will benefit Global Food Initiative, a Church of the Brethren program that assists hungry people through community development projects. History Center Sets Colonial York Day The York County History Center will present Colonial York Day, a free day of living history activities, on Saturday, July 28. The festivities will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the History Center’s Colonial Complex at 157 W. Market St., York. The site includes the General Horatio Gates House and Golden Plough Tavern and the Colonial Court House. Colonial York Day will include 30-minute dramatizations of the election of York County’s first public official in 1750. The election ended in a brawl between German and Irish settlers. The dramatizations will take place at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. at the Bobb Log Cabin. In addition, visitors may engage with reenactors, demonstrators, and living historians. Mark Hagenbuch will portray Baron Von Steuben, the man credited with professionalizing the Continental Army, on the Colonial Courthouse lawn at 11:30 a.m. The Lancaster Flying Camp will present mortar demonstrations at noon and 2 p.m.

Wagon rides will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A presentation titled “18th-Century Law and Justice” will be presented by York County Judge Gregory M. Snyder in the Colonial Courthouse at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The family activity area will feature a log footprint the size of a typical home, furnished with a rope bed that may be strung and a mattress sack ready to be stuffed with straw and laid on. Chores and games will round out the activities. Group To Host Guest Speaker York Aglow will present guest speaker Susan Heagy on Saturday, July 28, at First Assembly of God Church, 2270 Susquehanna Trail North, York, at 9 a.m. The community is invited to attend. Heagy began visiting Holocaust survivors living in Israel in 2004, and by 2008 her visits had grown into Abundant Hope International, a nonprofit organization spanning several nations and involving hundreds of volunteers. Heagy is the organization’s president and founder.
