GriefShare is a weekly seminar and support group for people who are grieving the death of someone close to them. St. John Lutheran Church, 2580 Mount Rose Ave., York, will hold a chicken barbecue fundraising event on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 11 a.m. until sold out. The cost of dinner will include a half-chicken, a baked potato, applesauce, and a roll. The Compassion Center at St. John will also be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for shopping and to accept donations. Proceeds will support the National Youth Gathering 2019. Yorkfest Will Celebrate The Arts American Legion Post 605 Presents Awards
Yorkfest Fine Arts Festival will feature artwork by fine artists from across the country, along with hands-on activities, music, poetry, and food. The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 25 and 26, in downtown York. The Yorkfest Fine Arts Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 25 and 26, in downtown York. The festival, which will be held in and around the Colonial Complex and along the Rail Trail from Philadelphia to Princess streets, will operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 25 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 26. All events are free and open to the public. This year’s featured artist is Robert Oughton. His pen-and-ink drawing “Lite Aire” is being used in print advertisements, postcards, billboards, and festival merchandise. Additionally, 100 fine
artists from across the country have been chosen to participate in the Yorkfest Festival Marketplace. A variety of activities will also be available during Yorkfest. The Yorkfest Juried Art Exhibition will be displayed at the Creative York gallery, 10 N. Beaver St. The public is invited to a reception for art and literary award winners at the gallery on Friday, Aug. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. New this year, a Silent Disco will take place in Cherry Lane on Aug. 24 from 8 to 11 p.m. The Yorkfest Youth Art and Literary

will hold a town hall meeting on Thursday, Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. at Living Word Community Church, 2530 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion, to discuss violence in homes and communities. A panel of experts representing victim services, law enforcement, legislative representatives and education professionals will explore the issues affecting the community and discuss how one can be an agent of change to work toward the prevention of violence in the community.
