Raising HOPE, a music and art fundraiser to benefit H.O.P.E. (Help for Oncology Problems and Emotional Support), will take place on Sunday, Aug. 19, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Agriculture and Industrial Museum, 217 W. Princess St., York. In addition to artwork by area artists and music by local performers, activities will include a silent auction, a photo booth, museum exploration, a scavenger hunt, face painting, and food. History Center Sets Colonial York Day The York County History Center will present Colonial York Day, a free day of living history activities, on Saturday, July 28. The festivities will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the History Center’s Colonial Complex at 157 W. Market St., York. The site includes the General Horatio Gates House and Golden Plough Tavern and the Colonial Court House. Colonial York Day will include 30-minute dramatizations of the election of York County’s first public official in 1750. The election ended in a brawl between German and Irish settlers. The dramatizations will take place at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. at the Bobb Log Cabin. In addition, visitors may engage with re-enactors, demonstrators, and living historians. Mark Hagenbuch will portray Baron Von Steuben, the man credited with professionalizing the Continental
York Aglow will present guest speaker Susan Heagy on Saturday, July 28, at First Assembly of God Church, 2270 Susquehanna Trail North, York, at 9 a.m. The community is invited to attend. Heagy began visiting Holocaust survivors living in Israel in 2004, and by 2008 her visits had grown into Abundant Hope International, a nonprofit organization spanning several nations and involving hundreds of volunteers. Heagy is the organization’s president and founder. Youths Invited To Enter Works In Yorkfest Exhibition The Yorkfest Fine Arts Festival’s Youth Art and Literary Exhibition will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 25 and 26, at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum, 217 W. Princess St., York. Youths ages 3 to 17 are invited to submit work.
Acceptable media for the Youth Art Exhibition include painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, mixed media, clay, fiber, wood, metal, paper, and jewelry. Works will be judged according to originality and creativity. Poetry and short stories will be See Exhibition pg 2

YSO Announces 2018-19 Season
The York Symphony Orchestra has announced that its 2018-19 season will be themed “HEROES!” The York Symphony Orchestra (YSO) has announced that its 2018-19 season is themed “HEROES!” It will feature performances - including six Classical Series concerts, four Pops Series concerts, and the annual Young Person’s Concert inspired by musical heroes, national heroes, heroes from olden times, sports heroes, and superheroes. Concerts will take place at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts, 50 N. George St., York. Army, on the Colonial Courthouse lawn at 11:30 a.m. The Lancaster Flying Camp will present mortar demonstrations at noon and 2 p.m. Wagon rides will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A presentation titled “18th-Century Law and Justice” will be presented by York County Judge Gregory M. Snyder in the Colonial Courthouse at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The family activity area will feature a log footprint the size of a typical home, furnished with a rope bed that may be strung and a mattress sack ready to be stuffed with straw and laid on. Chores and games will round out the activities.
