OFFICIAL PROGRAMME
SPORT NATIONAL SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre
Tuesday 11, Wednesday 12 & Thursday 13 March 2025
We are delighted to be returning to Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre for three days of schools’ championships action, with the finals of our Notts Sports Girls Schools Tiered Championships and the Boys U18 Tier 1 finals.
This is the second season of new formats for the Under 14 Tier 1 Championships where the competition has run as a knockout format and the Under 16 Tier 1 Championships run as mini leagues in the early stages, again ensuring each team had at least three matches, with teams qualifying for the final via knockout stages. Both have Plate tournaments giving additional opportunities for more teams.
The new U16 Tier 1 format has opened up opportunities for schools participating in the Tier 2 Championships, similar to what has been in place for a number of seasons at U18 level where the Tier 1 league format continues to be successful for the highest ranked schools.
We will see the culmination of the U18 Tier 1 leagues, played over two terms, and congratulate the four teams in each gender who have made it to this stage. For many players in the U18 competitions it will be the end of their school hockey journey; we hope that they will continue in our fabulous sport whatever their paths take.
In all, and including the lower tier championships, 92 different teams will have taken part in national schools finals for the 14s, 16s and 18s age groups by the end of the season. We are proud that the changes made to our programme, in consultation with schools, to develop a tiered structure has been successful. The many new faces here, taking their place alongside traditional qualifiers, is a testimony to that and it is great to know how well some of the newcomers will be supported. Congratulations to all teams.
Our thanks go to all the team officials who have dedicated a lot of time to the development of each team. We know that their commitment is very much appreciated by the players and parents. Thanks also go to the umpires and officials who give their time freely to run the tournaments in a structured and fair manner. All of you are part of the thousands of people in our sport who continue to help hockey move forwards.
We thank the staff here at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre for their support in hosting days like this which we hope will be memorable for you all. They kick off a busy few months here and we hope that players here will want to return to see our international teams in Pro League action in the Summer as we prepare for the EuroHockey Championships.
Making a national final is a big deal. Out of all the teams in the country, you’re amongst the few who made it, so CONGRATULATIONS!

NOTES:
The Under 14 competition was introduced in the 2002-03 season when schools and clubs competitions were split. The Under 14 Schools Cup was a replacement for the Girls’ Under 15 Cup which previously allowed schools and clubs to compete alongside each other.
