Candidate statement:
As an environmental engineering consultant in Kingston, Ontario, I have over 25 years of experience in areas ranging from source water protection to air emissions modeling for small businesses. Throughout my career, I have mentored new graduates, helping them navigate the path toward professional licensure. I have also served as a volunteer member of the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) for over 10 years in positions with increasing leadership responsibility, culminating as Chair in 2022-23. While serving as liaison between CEAB and the Engineers Canada Board of Directors, I learned of the strengths and weaknesses in the licensing practices of the different regulators across Canada. In addition, I have experience evaluating international engineering licensing practices with the International Engineering Alliance.
Iʼve seen firsthand how many young professionals face challenges with the evolving licensing process at PEO, particularly those educated outside Ontario, those entering the profession through non-traditional pathways, or those working in non-conventional fields. I strongly support the efforts of Past PEO President Christian Bellini in working with Engineers Canada to align regulatory practices across the country. PEO can learn from the experiences of other regulators as we continue to improve our registration processes.
I value transparency, respect, and good governance. In my work with CEAB, I worked toward making decision-making more transparent, considering stakeholder involvement. I focused on mutual respect among members, and ensured the quieter voices were equally heard. I also worked to clearly document and effectively communicate policies and procedures. I hope to continue this work with PEO.

Candidate statement:
I am concerned about the future of our profession:
1. For PEO to remain relevant, we must be willing to adopt a governance culture that consistently makes decisions that serve and protect public interests. Self-regulation is a privilege., not a right.
2. As part of the final phase of governance review, PEO will be evaluating its volunteer structure. PEO must continue to leverage the strength of its license holders to position itself to become a more responsive, progressive regulator.
3. Continue to support the implementation of the licensing process to make the progression through licensure less demanding.
I am seeking re-election for a third term on Council to continue working on these issues by soliciting opinions from and providing feedback to license holders. I encourage you to get to know the candidates, form your own opinion and vote. Have your say. Be proud of our profession! I can be reached at: lroberge@peo.on.ca.
