Telguard is a British made telephone or GSM based intercom. The system is able to plug in to an analogue extension of your telephone system so that a visitor access request can be answered on any telephone or cordless phone on the premises. This perfectly suits late arrivals being able to contact a member of staff at any time, whether the call is set to ring their cordless phone or a mobile phone. If it is not possible to provide an extension at the entrance point, a dedicated ‘BT’ type line can be used. This would enable the Telguard to make a call to the main telephone switchboard or it could call a mobile phone number so that a porter would not have to stop what they were doing to allow access for a quest. Alternatively one of our GSM systems could be used. This simply means that a mobile phone call is made from the Telguard as it is not connected to a telephone line. This system is also able to provide video to the mobile phone (Android device) that answers the call from the entrance. So now the porter or employee is able to see who is at the entrance before they allow them access. This could even be actioned remotely from another site! The memory of the system is programmed with a telephone number and a button on the Telguard is associated with that number. When a visitor presses that button, the Telguard speed dials the associated number and the phone at the other end will ring. On answering the call the user is then able to converse with the caller and if they wish to allow them access they simply press the ‘#’ key on the phone they are using. This command signals the door/gate/barrier to open.

certain periods. This could be when reception closes or a different employee starts a shift. This also applies to access codes and trade access.

Hotelier & Hotel Design

Staff are able to call the Telguard (it has it’s own SIM card or phone line) and if their number is in the Authorised Access Memory, they cancel the call as soon as it starts ringing and the entrance will open. This is all recorded on the activity logs that can be downloaded remotely

The 2015 event is being launched with the announcement of plans for Sleep Set and the Sleep Bar, two hugely inspirational and popular features that challenge design companies to think afresh each year and create spaces which explore new ideas, materials and technologies.

Every year the exhibition is carefully curated to ensure the most compelling combination of newcomers and regular names, larger manufacturers and bespoke artisans.

This year’s task is to design a guestroom that draws on the essence of fairytales and folklore over the centuries and across the world. Designers are invited to weave their own story which, like a fairytale, touches on the human condition while playing with perceptions to engage and nurture the guest in new ways. For a Pampering, Oriental Bathing Experience

Oriental pampering program for the hotel bathroom and spa area: HAMMAM SPA. The tubes are held in warm, earthy colors with typical oriental ornamentation, evoking images of the Eastern culture.

Hotelier & Hotel Design

Centuries old, but more popular than ever before: oriental hammams with their traditional bathing rituals. ADA Cosmetics has developed an appropriate hotel cosmetics line. With HAMMAM SPA, hoteliers can offer their guests an unforgettable wellness experience for body and mind.

40

The term ‘hammam’ stands for an ancient wellness formula: relaxation and health as well as cleansing of body and mind. In the orient, the traditional bathing ceremony – consisting of cleansing, relaxing and massage – is part of daily life. In the UK, an increasing number of public hammams also is being established. Many a hotel has added the bathing ritual as an attractive addition to its wellness program. For hoteliers who want to convert their bathrooms or spa areas into a luxurious bathing temple, ADA offers now a matching, exclusive cosmetics line: HAMMAM SPA. This opulent pampering program follows the rituals of Ottoman bathing traditions. The key element of the rich product range is a purifying

step-by-step cleansing: a Shower Peeling with plant-based peeling components, a mineral-rich Body Mud with a deep cleansing effect, a Shower Gel with moisturizing rose Conditioner with pro-vitamin B5. A Body Cream with precious argan oil completes the assortment. ADA has translated the orient’s love of opulent, sensual fragrances into a composition of tangy-fruity and exotic woody notes. The soothing effects of HAMMAM SPA-products are due to their natural, high-end ingredients. The formulation is composed exclusively of bio-degradable, pH neutral surfactants. It is free of critical substances such as parabens, mineral oils and silicone oils. Also available: a special Massage Soap with Products are available in 30 ml tubes and select products in 150ml tubes – perfectly suited for sale in hotel shops. Accessories such as a wellness gift set round off the portfolio. Please visit www.ada-cosmetics.com

Hair & Body Shampoo and Liquid Soap are also offered in the eco-friendly Smart Care System (300ml).

FIRST STROKES SWIMMING POOL CHANGING ROOM LOCKERS

We were approached by the award winning First Strokes Swim Schools, to provide lockers suitable for their swimming centre’s changing rooms in Suffolk. First Strokes required lockers of exceptional durability, capable of withstanding not only the daily clamour of hundreds of excitable students but also the corrosive effects of a damp and chlorinated environment. The number of visitors meant that the lockers needed to be easily maintainable and able to be power washed. Crucially, the lockers also had to be visually appealing, that First Strokes has created. Our eXtreme Plastic Lockers® ticked all of these boxes. The tough polyethylene construction ensures that they are exceptionally hard-wearing while remaining unaffected by a damp and chlorinated environment. eXtreme Plastic Lockers® can also be power washed, and drain holes will allow any water inside the lockers to escape easily.

Most importantly, the attractive design and bespoke colour options of our eXtreme Plastic Lockers® meant that we were able to offer First Strokes not only the most practical solution but also one that complemented the look of their swimming centre. All lockers were customised with navy bodies, orange doors for the male changing room and pink doors for the female changing room, giving each its own identity. We are proud to say that First Strokes Swim Schools rated our products and their overall experience with us as excellent. After this successful install, First Strokes Swim Schools could potentially be rolling out eXtreme Plastic Lockers® to their other centres in Essex and Cambridge.

“Excellent communication and friendly advisors” Gillian Dovey, Founder Locker Quality: Overall Experience:

Contemporary tranquility complimented by more traditional architectural elements of the design.

SANDS HOTEL Margate

The design work for the Sands started in February 2012 following on from my client Nick Conington purchasing the property at auction and seeing it’s potential as a boutique hotel. Margate is on the cusp of revival as a popular holiday destination and arty old town following the opening of the Turner Gallery and a recent influx of investment and interest. I have a personal connection with Margate as it’s where I grew up and where my family still live so when Nick asked me to be the interior designer for his project I jumped at the chance to be involved in the towns regeneration. A lot of time was spent working with Nick and visiting interior exhibitions so that I could interpret his ideas into a design with harmony and balance but which was derived from his initial vision. To be an interior designer you must listen to your client and develop a brief from what can be quite incoherent and random ideas, but I feel that with the Sands it has been a good combination, and that we have more than achieved what we wanted. Margate is renowned for its stunning sunset views over the bay and was the subject of many paintings by artist William Turner and this was a key focal point in my own design to draw your eye to the view. The restaurant we wanted to be an open light space looking over the bay and the ceiling design was a way of tracing the outline of the building and drawing your eye to the perspective of the windows at the back. I wanted to keep an element of the Victorian heritage but still make the hotel up to date and modern. I designed

it with a contemporary tranquility which was complimented by more traditional architectural elements of the design. Using the original stain glass windows, elaborate cornice and original columns I wanted to keep the design in touch with the buildings Victorian history and not make the space too out of keeping with the buildings architecture. Chandeliers were used throughout the public areas to add an authentic Victorian feel to the space. One of the hotel’s centre pieces is a feature chandelier which cuts through the centre of the staircase and spans all five floors of the hotel. This was given a contemporary twist on the more traditional chandeliers I used by incorporating LED lit acrylic pieces in a crystal shape. The piece is striking and adds a quirkiness to the overall feel of the hotel. The colour palette was kept fairly neutral and warm with the Azure colour being added towards the end as the style of the hotel was developed and as a compliment to the sea view. I used rich luxurious textures in a lot of the seating to give a feeling of comfort in such a large open space, which in my experience can sometimes feel cold and sparse. Yellow wispy planters were placed under the stained glass windows to enhance their colour and to tie in with the yellow birch glass bar fronts. The rugs were a combination of traditional and contemporary with large curvy edge designs in the centre of the spaces to reflect the sea view and add an organic element to the overall style.

Butlin’s Bognor Regis Completes £2.4 Million Nautical Fun Revamp of The Shoreline Hotel Bedrooms Ahoy there me hearties! Earlier this month saw the completion of the £2.4 million nautical revamp of the bedrooms inside the Shoreline hotel at the Butlin’s Bognor Regis resort in West Sussex, as part of the brand's ongoing investment in providing a high quality, value for money short break experience for families. The Shoreline hotel, which marked the step-change Butlin’s took in transitioning from traditional chalet accommodation to bespoke hotels, has undergone a full internal refurbishment of the accommodation under the skilful eye of Newman Gauge, a commercial interior design consultancy, specialising in leisure and hospitality. “The Shoreline hotel refurbishment has been a really exciting process for Newman Gauge” says Sam Stokoe, Project Design Lead, Newman Gauge who led the Interior Design when the hotel was originally built back in 2005. “It is great to get the opportunity to create a clearer theme and add more personality and character to the spaces that you have already created; of all 3 hotels we’ve developed for Butlin’s over the last ten years, this one has the best location for waking up and watching the changing sea.” The new nautical concept evolved from the original ocean liner shape of the architecture and the buildings close proximity to the sea. Newman Gauge developed the 160 bedroom nautical accommodation with the marketing team at Butlin’s to evoke a sense of being aboard a ship with colourful cabins leading off deck-themed corridors.
