Macclesfield Hospital Catering Mark recognition for retail and patient food The catering service at Macclesfield Hospital has become only the second hospital in England to be awarded the Soil Association Food for Life Bronze Catering Mark for both its restaurant food and its patient food, recognising its drive for fresh meals and good food for all.

In a Family and Friends test of the new in-patient menus, feedback to catering and care staff was excellent. “Staff lovely; food lovely,” said one patient. Another commented: “The food was good – which I didn’t expect – and the smiles on the faces of the staff always made me feel warm.”

Providing over 200 daily meals to hospital visitors and staff as well as the general public and out-patients and 350 to in-patients, Macclesfield is part of an exciting nationwide initiative by catering providers ISS Facilities Services to improve hospital food.

The initiative involves changing menus, working with suppliers, sourcing fresh produce, preparing meals on site and training staff. For the team at Macclesfield, the passion to improve food in retail outlets and for patients stemmed from a desire to promote the

benefits of healthy eating to everyone in the local area.

Greene King one of UK’s top 50 apprenticeship employers The Apprenticeship Careers List, which is produced in association with the Daily Telegraph, aims to raise awareness of apprenticeships and celebrate the country’s leading companies who are investing in young people. Greene King was recognised as one of the top 10 organisations within the retail and services sector in terms of employee retention rate, recruitment strategy and the number of apprenticeships offered per year. Since 2011, Greene King has helped support over 7,400 apprentices and offers bespoke qualifications that support a range of job roles including front of house, kitchen and management that are tailored to each of the Greene King retail brands. Through a combination of workplace

learning and additional industry masterclasses, apprentices develop the capabilities and technical skills that enable them to reach their potential and support Greene King in delivering exceptional customer service. In just four years, 4,000 Greene King apprentices have achieved a qualification and 3,400 learners are currently working towards Level 2-4 qualifications. Greene King, which manages 1,900 pubs, hotels and restaurants across the UK, announced earlier this year that it had reached a key milestone by recruiting its 1,000th apprentice. This put the company ahead of schedule in its pledge to recruit 2,000 apprentices in the year to March 2016. Rooney Anand, chief executive officer of Greene King, said: “We are very

proud to be named as one of the UK’s top 50 apprenticeship employers. As a leader in hospitality, employing over 40,000 people across the UK, it is important to us that we attract, train and retain the very best people. This is why we strongly believe in the value of apprenticeships, and remain committed to growing, developing and investing in young people. It is important to raise awareness of apprenticeships as a credible alternative to further education, which allows young people to get that allimportant step on the career ladder.”

Danny Hoang from Colette’s at The Grove in Rickmansworth was named Young National Chef of the Year 2016 in the UK’s most prestigious chef competition, following a tense final at The Restaurant Show in London’s Olympia. Winning the Craft Guild of Chefs’ Young National Chef of the Year title is a huge boost for any young chef’s career and Danny joins a growing list of accomplished young chefs who are now working in some of the UK’s top kitchens. Danny competed against seven talented young finalists in a challenge which gave the chefs two hours to produce a three course menu for two using oven ready quail for the starter, a main course of fresh hake and their own take on bread and butter pudding for dessert. Danny’s starter was quail leg and breast, watercress and parsley sauce, hay-baked baby beetroots and nasturtium and his main; seared hake, baby leeks, vinaigrette of sea vegetables, mussels and celeriac, beet batter scraps, mussel cream sauce. His dessert was lightly spiced bread and butter pudding with vanilla ice-cream and malt custard, pickled blackberries and Braeburn apples. The menu was deemed a worthy winner by the judges who included: Mark Sargeant, Alyn Williams, Christopher Basten, Sophie Mitchell, Julie Walsh, Ben Tish and Brad McDonald. Danny Young from Northcote Manor in Langho came a close runner up, with Ruth Hansom of The Ritz London in third place. The winner and runners up will be taken to a food trends study trip to Scotland by headline sponsor, KNORR. KNORR has also invited all the finalists to a stunning five star venue in Scotland for a culinary study tour and a range of outdoor activities. As well as the industry recognition that the title provides, Danny Hoang also collects an exclusively designed winner’s plate from sponsors Churchill China and £500 worth of product, £1,250 voucher to spend within the Lockharts’ Product Range, a unique gastronomic trip to one of the world’s top restaurants courtesy of Lockhart Catering Equipment and £1,500 worth of activity voucher from KNORR. The remaining finalists were: • • • • •

Arthur Quinn, The Punchball Inn Elly Wentworth, Manor House Hotel, Castle Combe, Connor Godfrey, Wiltons Restaurant Ray Steplin, House of Commons Victoria Scupham, The Royal Household

Mark Sargeant, Young National Chef of the Year Ambassador, adds: “It’s an honour to be an ambassador for Young National Chef of the Year. Having won a competition in a similar guise in 1996, I know what it means to have the accolade at such a young age. “Winning makes a huge difference to your learning and enables you to build your social skills and grow your confidence. It can even lead you to your next job. I’m a big fan of these young chefs who are so keen and hungry. The standard of the competition goes from strength to strength and I may say it every year but these young chefs aren’t far off giving the senior chefs a run for their money!”

BBPA: Small businesses should be excluded from apprenticeship levy The BBPA has called for the exclusion of small businesses such as individual pubs, in the Government’s proposals for an Apprenticeship Levy. These, and other detailed comments, are contained in the BBPA submission to the consultation on the issue. The BBPA has also commented on the introduction of the National Living Wage, in a submission to the Low Pay Commission. While the BBPA has concerns about the need for a Levy, it says that any scheme should only apply to larger companies, to avoid placing an excessive burden on very small businesses; companies with over 250 employees would be broadly the right approach. The BBPA has also made a number of detailed suggestions to secure the maximum benefit from the scheme. It wants to ensure that the system of vouchers is designed to enable companies to get more out than they put in, if others are not using their allocation of vouchers, and to allocate their vouchers to partners in their supply chain, if they so wish. Employers must also be given the flexibility to decide where their employees are based within the UK where they work across devolved boundaries, and this must be simple to administer. On the Low Pay Commission submission on the introduction of the National Living Wage, the BBPA has stressed that the proposals represent a significant ‘unknown’ in terms of costs and impact on the sector. Other measures to mitigate this impact are therefore needed, such as reform of business rates and continued reductions in beer duty. The association wants to see an evidence-based approach to setting the National Minimum Wage rates for October, to support businesses and employees. The large increase in the apprenticeship rate just introduced needs time to settle in and this will also tie in with the impact of the Apprenticeship Levy. BBPA Chief Executive Brigid Simmonds comments: “Apprenticeships are vital for our industry. We need the new Levy system to provide flexibility to allow the large number of apprenticeships offered in our industry to develop and grow, so we need legislation that encourages this process that is not too burdensome for smaller businesses. The potential cost of the Living Wage makes it all the more important that the Government retain a strong focus on tax cuts and other regulatory burdens.”

A new concept in SPA BUILD from Spa Creators Ltd.

November 2015

What is SPAshell™? SPAshell™ is a fully functioning, working spa complete with eight fully furnished Treatment Rooms, Thermal Experiences, Deep Relaxation area, Juice Bar and a Spa Lounge that leads to an Outdoor Balcony Terrace, which overlooks the Outdoor Hot Tub. This concept, developed by Spa Creators over five years in development has been created from identifying a need in the market for a spa that could be designed, developed and delivered to its pre prepared site, requiring no foundations with minimal building works or interruptions to daily operations.

Who is it for? Spa Creators have seen a growing requirement in the boutique hotel and venue based business markets for an additional revenue stream. Over the years, many operators have approached Spa Creators for spa consultancy advice but may not feel they have the experience, the space or the finance to take on a large-scale spa build. Alistair Johnson, Founder and Managing Director of SPAshell™ says “This is an effective method of increasing REV PAR (revenue per room), increasing food and beverage sales, increasing room occupancy and broadening your market appeal”. SPAshell™ is a franchise spa business and offers a turnkey fully working spa. Built upon years of experience, enabling the operator (who may have no prior spa knowledge) to deliver a luxury spa experience for their guests. This concept will also appeal to country house and landowners who are looking to diversify. SPAshell™ will manage every stage of the process from planning through to spa launch. What makes this design particularly appealing is that due to the modular construction method used, there is no requirement for foundations, which may open up a site that has previously been limited by planning or conservation restrictions.

How is it made? SPAshell™ is designed using latest eco modular construction methods, with a central building and eight spa treatment pods that are connected to the main building. The spa footprint measures 20m by 20m in total. The core building and each spa pod is clad in Siberian Larch Wood chosen for low maintenance, high manufacturing standards, and for being an aesthetically beautiful timber. It

Independent Hotel Show

was chosen to blend sympathetically with the countryside and its environment. However, the most amazing feature of Siberian Larch is its natural resistance to decay. It is known in Russia as the ‘Tree of Eternity’. The spa building which has been designed exclusively by Spa Creators has combined the most efficient use of valuable space for obtaining high revenue returns. With a unique design for client flow, this spa has integrated the best operational spa practices to offer an exceptional spa experience for its size. The building is a facetted circular construction with a cantilevered roof to the outdoor balcony .The spa is designed around a stunning circular structure known as the ‘Oyster’. This is the hub of the spa and houses the reception, changing areas, thermal suite on the ground floor and a Deep Relaxation area, Juice Bar and a Spa Lounge that leads to the outdoor balcony terrace.

What is the benefit over a traditional spa build? Other than the obvious advantages in terms of speed of installation, minimal interruptions to the venue and low cost: the only requirement of the operator is to provide services to the building and the staff. The simplicity of this business model with no requirement for significant upfront investment makes this an extremely compelling concept. Once installed and connected your spa is ready to go.

Our ranges are as varied

as hotels are different There are about 10,000 reasonable sized hotels in the UK. And whilst hotel chains tend to create similar looking hostelries, in the main every hotel is different. Yet, very often, hotels choose towels and robes that are identical to the next. Nothing wrong with that and indeed the best selling towels at King of Cotton are hotel standard 500 GSM white towels. However, it is worth considering what could make any hotel stand out, and what could provide a marketing advantage. For instance, you could be the only hotel in the area offering Organic Towels. Organic products are on the increase and some of the statistics from a recent study are eye-opening. Organic beauty and health products grew by 17% in 2013 alone and 4 out of every 5 homes now buys organic produce.

Towels need not be white and need not be made in the same way. Look at the King of Cotton Zero Twist range. These towels are made from pure cotton which has been spun in such a way that the fibres remain straighter. This process adds strength to the product yet makes the material incredibly light and easier to wash and dry. Zero Twist is available in white and in some very sophisticated colours in towels and robes.

Robes is one area where you really can be different. King of Cotton has seen a dramatic increase in the uptake of more unusual robes by hotel owners which is why they now offer no less than nine different ranges. Some offer ‘stand-out’ by virtue of their heritage, such as the ‘The Ritz Carlton’, a beautifully designed robe, used in one of the world’s grandest venues in 420 GSM soft waffle pure cotton. Other designs that are unique include the Monte Carlo Towelling Robe, as shown, with its contrasting collar and cuffs in three colour ways.

There is an interior design opportunity for hotels in the wide ranges of throws and bedspreads, from contemporary to traditional available from King of Cotton.

Have a look at all King of Cotton products on the website and remember to call the company to set up your trade account for offers and discounts.

AccuBook is attending the Independent Hotel Show October 20/21st 2015 Stand 281

AccuBook has been working with Hotels and B&B’s since 2002 to provide software to the accommodation industry and now has 350 customers worldwide in locations such as Vietnam, Thailand, France and of course UK and Ireland. AccuBook websites are multi-lingual, and responsive for Mobile phones and Tablets etc, and come equipped with a full Content Management System that allows Hotel marketing Staff to add pages, news, events and other content ‘at will’. AccuBook is unusual in the industry in offering a combined package of Website, Booking Engine and Channel Manager, allowing hotels to deal with just one supplier and implement a coordinated strategy. The release of the Diary System in 2016 will see AccuBook complete the reservation chain from customer booking to the printing of the invoice at checkout. ‘Customer seem to like the dealing with just 1 supplier’ says Gerry Haughey Sales Manager ‘and they like being able to speak directly to their Account Manager in Ireland if they have any issues. In addition, the Free Trial, 7 day set–up period and absence of a ‘Tied Contract’ tends to make us a logical choice’. What our customers say; “The best bit of business we did was to set up the AccuBook system, it’s easy to use and quick to set up. We recently got connected to the Channel Manager and the only mistake we made was we should have done this a few years ago. Good customer support and constant updates coming.” - Paul Murphy, Murphy’s Hotel, Tubbercurry, Co Sligo, Ireland IHS Offer – Quote IHS15 and get a FREE Trial until January 2016 AND free professional photography of your hotel premises. Oktoberfest German Beer Festival Comes To London for First Time The world-famous German beer festival Oktoberfest is launching in London for the first time this year. The Bavarian festival which has been held in Munich since 1810 is going to be held at the Tabacco Docks in Wapping, east London from Thursday 8th October to Sunday 11th October. Over 100,000 pints of lager, in traditional German one litre Stein glasses, are expected to be drunk and over 50,000 traditional sausages eaten during the four day festival. A traditional German beer hall will be created with rows of seated on long tables with benches and over 24,000 people are expected to attend. There will be a Bavarian Oompah band playing on the main stage at the event but unlike the Munich based event, songs performed will be classic British pop and rock songs from bands like Queen and Oasis. Waitresses serving the beers will all be decked out in traditional Drindl dresses, with a laced up bodices, white blouses, with full skirts and aprons. The men’s outfits will include genuine lederhosen breeches, alpine hats and socks up to the knee.

Event organiser Joe Ryan said: “I’ve always thought that London would be amazing place to put on the Oktoberfest, and Tabacco dock is the perfect location for this event. The wooden beams and the high ceilings give an authentic feels to this satellite of the world famous Bavarian beer festival.” And he added: “It’s going to be amazing fun and we are already struggling to keep up with demand for tickets and may look to add another date in future. We would love to make this an annual event in London and because the German event has been put forward to September nowadays due to the inclement weather this will now the one genuine Oktoberfest in Europe.” There will be a selection of side-stalls, a Bavarian garden and games will be available including lessons from German professional footballers on taking penalties, and a special Beach Towel Toss game, where you have to throw a German flag beachtowel over 50ft and stake your claim to a sun-lounger by the pool. Food will be laid on from German restaurant chain Hermann Ze German who will offer Wurstl (sausages) with Sauerkruat (pickled cabbage), Shnitzel and Germany’s favourite potato salad. The event was first held in 1810 to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese of SaxeHildburghausen, who was related to the

great-great-great-great grandmother of the Queen. The event is sponsored by German beer company Paulaner which is one of the original founders of the Oktoberfest event and based in Munich. They will be specially shipping over 600 beer barrels of traditional beer which is a particularly light lager with the recognisable frothy white head. As the event is held directly after the Oktoberfest in Munich, Paulaner will also send all of their tent decorations over to London. Tickets are £10 for general admission to the event including the Paulaner Beer Tent, the Bavarian Garden, the Paulaner Beer Tap Pub and the Munich Market. Seating is on a first come first served basis as long as there is capacity. A £60 Paulaner Pass includes unlimited steins of Paulaner beer and a meal of your choice from Herman Ze German. A Paulaner Table for 10 at £600 includes 10 Paulaner passes and VIP tables for £1,000 are located adjacent to the the Ooompah band stage. Choosing Commercial Furniture

November 2015

Bar Focus

Opening up a bar or restaurant is indeed one of the most lucrative businesses today. People’s penchant for hanging out and having fun, drinking and dining, unwinding and partying have driven the proliferation of bars and restaurants in our society. However, with so many bars and restaurants all over the country, it is important that you are able to create a unique identity for your business, a way to stand out among the crowd. One of the ways to do that is to purchase furniture that will give your venue a look like no other. Of course, furniture buying is not entirely for image’s sake. There are also other important factors to consider. To help you find the perfect kind of furniture, here are the questions you need to ask before purchase.

1. Will it complement the 2. Will it last? design and theme of my venue? Here, quality plays a major role. With quality comes The furniture in your venue should blend beautifully with the designs of the interior such as wall paint and other decorative elements. For example, if your bar or restaurant has that laid-back ambience, go for casual earth-toned overstuffed couches. If you are going for an ethnic style, pick artisan pieces. If your bar or restaurant has a contemporary visage, opt for modern furniture that are of bold colours and made of metal and glass. Now if it exemplifies a young and hip atmosphere, go for furniture that has upbeat colours and designs. 32

durability and permanence. Whatever you do, never sacrifice quality when you go furniture shopping. This is one of the most important ways to ensure that your furniture will last a long time doing service for you and your customers.

3. Will it give utmost comfort and convenience to my customers? There is no use buying furniture such as tables and chairs that will make your customers feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. People will go to your venue to unwind and have a fun break from the usual work grind so it is only right that you are able to provide them with furniture that will help them relax. Soft cushioned couches, bar stools with backrests and tables that are just high enough so they do not have to stoop down are just few of the many examples of such furniture.

Bar Focus

4. Will it attract customers to my bar or restaurant? When people peek into your bar or restaurant they will not yet get to taste your exquisite food or see that the service is efficient, the first thing they will see is the physical interior including the furniture. Because of that, it is important that you set up and decorate your venue with furniture that will give a fun and inviting ambience to lure customers.

5. Will it give my bar or restaurant a unique personality? As mentioned earlier, your venue should have a distinct personality that will make it stand out among other similar businesses. If it looks just like a carbon copy of the next bar or restaurant in town, chances are your bar will not be noticed. A way to ensure this is to let your personal taste be your guide when picking out furniture.

6. Will it fit the size of my bar or restaurant? It is also very important to plan the space inside your establishment so that you do not end up buying pieces that are too big or will cause the space to look too crowded. Make sure that the number of chairs and tables are sufficient but please ensure that there will be enough space to move around. When people fill up your bar or restaurant, it is essential that there is adequate room to allow a smooth flow of traffic among customers and employees as well.

7. Will it be a practical investment? We all know that buying furniture entails spending quite a sum of money especially if you are going for high-end and high-quality types of furniture. With that said, it is necessary to make sure that you are making a worthy investment. To ensure this, it is a good idea to opt for furniture with classic designs rather than follow trends so that it will not easily get outdated or out of fashion.

Buying the perfect furniture that will fit suitably into your bar is a step towards the success of your business. Make sure you are buying the right kind by keeping these considerations in mind. 33

Hot Beverages Comments by Steph Goldie, brand manager for DaVinci Gourmet: “Coffee culture has permeated the UK, and as a nation, we now drink around 70 million cups per day. Whether foodservice operators are looking to take a first step in their speciality drinks offer with some much-loved syrups, or want to create new hot drink flavour combinations, DaVinci Gourmet products set your coffee offer apart from others.

“Consumers are no longer satisfied with the generic black or milky coffee, and this has created the opportunity for wholesalers to profit from speciality hot beverage lines. “Foodservice operators of all types can take advantage of this trend. From hotels and restaurants, through to retail outlets, customers now expect speciality beverages to be served in a variety of locations, not just coffee shops. DaVinci Gourmet’s complete beverage solution is simple to introduce, making it a viable option for baristas of all skill levels. “Consumers are willing to pay extra for speciality beverages, and this is giving foodservice operators the opportunity to increase their profit margins. By adding syrup to a coffee and marketing the drink as a complete recipe, operators can boost their profits by up to 80%. “In 2013, 70% of customers bought a food item alongside their beverage, and as a result, a speciality beverage menu will drive cross sales. Operators can take advantage of this trend by serving cakes or sandwiches with a hot beverage, and using syrups as a new flavour inspiration. “Coffee can be perceived as a healthier alternative to desserts, which gives restaurants the opportunity to upsell coffee at the end of a meal. With the popularity of dessert inspired drinks growing, operators can introduce hot drink sales by serving dessert inspired recipes. Many customers are now choosing these drinks as a way of enjoying a treat after a meal. A Honeycomb Mocha is a delicious choice for those with a sweet tooth, as the Honeycomb syrup works well with the richness of the Chocolate sauce and bitterness of the espresso. “With demand for different flavours, DaVinci Gourmet’s new Salted Caramel syrup is a timely addition to any speciality beverages menu. With an exceptional taste and naturally rich colour, the syrup is perfect for recipes such as a Salted Caramel Latte or Salted Caramel Cookie Frappe. “Mintel research indicates that 42% of consumers associate sugar free products with healthiness, DaVinci Gourmet’s range of Sugar Free syrups allow consumers to choose a virtuous drink without compromising on taste. Operators can choose from three classic flavours; Caramel, Hazelnut and Vanilla.”

Professor Cornelius Ampleforth 44

Professor Cornelius Ampleforth’s Rumbullion! XO 15 Year Old is an unique, incredibly aged, category defying spiced rum. The original Rumbullion!, which recently took home a Gold Medal in the Super Premium category of the Spirits business Rum Masters 2014, was made with a base of Caribbean rum, to which exquisite Madagascan vanilla, orange rind, cinnamon, clove and cardamom are added. For the XO, however, many of these notes were found in the 15 year old Caribbean rum which sits at its core, a testament to its lengthy maturation. While the additional stunning spices haven’t changed, their quantities were reigned-in slightly to allow for the extraordinary flavours of the long-aged rum to shine through clearly. The result is the best of both worlds - The Rumbullion! XO has familiar, fantastic flavours from the award-winning Rumbullion!, with new dimensions of depth and complexity arising from the spectacular rum it is structured around. The flavour profile hasn’t just aged. It has matured - it is a grown-up version of an already awesome drink. As with all Professor Cornelius Ampleforth libations, it is handsomely packaged. It could very easily have come from a sea captain’s private quarters! The nose opens with rich, creamy wafts of vanilla and toasted cinnamon. Bright orange peel, dark chocolate and cola-cube sweeties surround classic sugary old rum notes. This continues on the palate with homemade marmalade, light oak and plum, with a thick, mouth-coating delivery. Beneath the sweetness lies a simmering pool of cinnamon, clove and liquorice. The finish is long a bittersweet, with oak and Seville oranges lasting until the end. Professor Cornelius Ampleforth’s Rumbullion! XO 15 Year Old is available from Master of Malt.

A new London boutique hotel has been given the Mitre Linen touch. The Mitre team has been working closely with the Shepherd’s Bush Boutique Hotel in the heart of London’s West End, which opened this summer. The hotel offers 4 Star Accomodation and facility Service. Mitre, who started working with the hotel when it was just a building site, gave each of the hotel’s 21 rooms their own individual design as well as personalising bespoke products. Products were selected from Heritage by Mitre, Mitre’s collection of timeless bed linen, towels, robes and soft furnishings. Luxurious white Ambassador bathrobes were personalised with the name of the hotel, while a pillow menu was devised with both firm and soft pillows from superior Abbey Collection. Beds were dressed with the beautiful 100% cotton Elegance range of bed linen.

Bathrooms were given a lavish touch with soft white microcotton Hampton towels which have the ability to absorb water almost instantaneously. Mitre’s soft furnishings team then helped to give each room its own style using a selection of different coloured bed runners, cushions and curtains in colours including chilli, duck egg and gold. Anita Jansone, Sales Manager for the Shepherd’s Bush Boutique Hotel, whose guests include leading financial companies and artists, says: “We have been delighted with Mitre’s hard work. The hotel prides itself on its homely feel and added value – offering guests complimentary extras such as bathrobes, slippers and organic toiletries makes us stand out. “Mitre has provided us with creative design advice as well as great quality products. Our guests really appreciate

the quality of our personalised bathrobes and slippers, the lovely bed linen and soft furnishings. In fact, we’ve had some lovely comments on the likes of Facebook, Trip Advisor and Online Travel Agency websites.” Mitre Linen MD Stephen Broadhurst says: “We love working with new hotels and helping them to define the style of their establishment. Our huge range of fabrics means we can choose products that perfectly suit each property while we can also create bespoke products from adding the hotel name to bathrobes, towels or even mattresses. “The Shepherd’s Bush Boutique Hotel prides itself on its customer care which is why our new Heritage by Mitre collection, which introduces a new level of luxury, was perfect for them.” www.mitrelinen.com

CABUCHON BATHFORMS LAUNCHES FIFTH GENERATION DEEP SOAKING TUB THE YASAHIRO British bath manufacturer Cabuchon Bathforms has announced the launch of the Yasahiro, a modern take on the traditional Japanese ofuro. Drawing upon more than 20 years’ experience of deep soaking tub design, it has a small footprint and is ideal for use in more compact bathrooms typical of boutique hotels, city apartments and townhouses. In 1991, Cabuchon launched the world’s first contemporary, Japanese-style deep soaking tub - the Imersa. Since then, the company has been steadily introducing new and improved designs. The Yasahiro represents the company’s fifth generation of deep soaking tubs and, as such, it incorporates everything its designers have learned about comfort, access and utility.

has enabled the company to reduce its overall height. The bather can still soak chest-deep in the same depth of water as in previous models but its lower sides make it easier to enter, and an external step is now rendered unnecessary. The Yasahiro can be installed freestanding but its compact dimensions - 1440mm x 850mm (56.75” x 33.5”) make it especially well suited for use as a corner bath and in smaller bathrooms. It can also be built into a raised deck or sunk into a floor. Its space-saving design mean that it also yields considerable savings on water use and heating.

Key features include a sculpted backrest, a low seat that optimises bather comfort, a soft headrest and long integrated armrests. These aid entry to the bath and allow the user to maintain a position that is both relaxed and well supported. The Yasahiro also boasts a large footwell that makes it suitable for use with overhead or wall-mounted showers.

Like all Cabuchon baths, every Yasahiro is hand-built by a team of British craftsmen and can therefore be customised to include, for example, hydrotherapy or chromotherapy systems. The bath is manufactured from the company’s own Ficore® composite, which carries a unique 25 year guarantee. Cabuchon can match literally any colour and will match any current (and many past) sanitaryware colours in its standard pricing. For an extra fee, it can also match the base colour of any tile, paint, stone or textile.

The Yasahiro’s seat is lower than in other Cabuchon deep soaking tubs and this

The use of Ficore affords additional benefits: it is stronger and more

rigid than any non-metal or nonstone bath and it possesses superior heat insulation and energy-saving properties. In independent tests, it has been shown to keep water hot more than six times longer than acrylic and more than twelve times longer than vitreous enamelled metal. “Since 1991, Cabuchon has been pioneering the development of contemporary deep soaking tubs,” notes managing director Tony Pontin. “Our soaking tubs are often copied but I don’t believe they’ve ever been equalled. With the launch of the Yasahiro, we feel we’re taking another important step forward in their evolution. Yasahiro is a Japanese name meaning ‘serenity’ and, as the latest model in our range, it embodies everything we’ve learned about comfort and relaxation.” The Cabuchon Bathforms range includes free standing, built-in and deep-soaking baths, all sold in standard or modified sizes. The range also includes custom designed hydrotherapy and chromotherapy systems. The company manufactures all its products in the UK and exports throughout the world.
