Wellness in 2026 moves toward practical habits shaped by science.

ABOVE é Saltwater swimming, hydrotherapy and immersion in natural pools have seen rise in popularity

Wellness in 2026 is moving toward something more grounded than the bold claims and rapid-fire trends of earlier years; it is becoming defined by an understanding of both mind and body and the places that restore them. People are stepping back from the pursuit of dramatic transformation and embracing the fundamentals of consistency informed by the latest research. What emerges is a wellness landscape shaped by science, supported by nature and one that is strengthened by a sense of community.

Central to this shift is the rise of practical, evidence-led routines. Long-term health planning is becoming an accessible part of everyday life. Longevity is now treated less like an abstract ambition but more as a realistic aim, in which strength, mobility and independence are maintained through decades rather than chased in fleeting bursts of motivation. Preventative care has expanded far beyond the annual check-up, encompassing advanced diagnostics and personalised data that illuminate how the body is functioning now and how it might fare in years to come. Genetic screening, microbiome mapping, hormonal assessments and whole-body scanning are

Wearable technology continues to play a crucial role in this steady evolution. Devices that capture sleep quality, glucose levels, movement patterns and heart rate variability have become trusted companions with personal AI-driven interpretations of data that offer tailored suggestions, such as food adjustments, training schedules that are precise.

Nutrition, too, has come under scrutiny. High-protein staples, fibre-rich options and gut-supportive ingredients have moved firmly into the mainstream as people recognise the profound effect gut health has on energy, immunity and mood. The interest in the stomach-brain connection has grown steadily, with research continually emphasising how microbial diversity influences emotional and cognitive health. As a result, fortified foods, probiotic and prebiotic blends and targeted supplementation form part of a more deliberate approach to eating; one that sits in sharp contrast to the decline in appetite for ultraprocessed foods.

The rise of evidence-based living has clarified the importance of emotional and mental wellbeing. The maintenance of good mental health has moved beyond being a response to crisis and is now recognised as an ongoing practice. The nervous system, once overlooked, is now a focal point. Breathwork, cold immersion, structured rest, sound therapy and similar practices have become regular parts of weekly routines. They counterbalance the fatigue created by productivity culture and offer a means of stabilising mood, improving sleep and restoring focus.

Somatic therapies, long considered fringe, have found their place within mainstream wellness. The idea that the body carries emotional patterns is no longer contentious,

and many people have gravitated towards movement-led or breath-led approaches that offer relief without requiring lengthy introspection. Gone is the fixation on extreme training regimes. Hybrid fitness models, balancing strength training with yoga, pilates or mobility work, have become the norm, recognising that long-term capability relies on durability, range of motion and muscular balance.

And as individuals refine their routines, many are rediscovering the importance of doing so together. After years in which digital workouts dominated, communal experiences are once again central to wellness. Group saunas, outdoor fitness sessions, shared sea swims, breathwork circles and multi-generational retreats are thriving as people seek connection. Social isolation has become one of the era’s most pressing concerns and wellness spaces are responding by offering environments where people can build supportive networks while restoring their health.

The movement towards inclusivity is strengthening, too, particularly in women’s health. Perimenopause and menopause have moved firmly into the public conversation, and support is finally catching up. Workplaces are implementing policies that recognise physiological changes, while supplements, training programmes and recovery protocols designed for female physiology are expanding. The shift acknowledges that women’s health is not a niche issue but a fundamental part of the wellness landscape.

Alongside this growing personalisation, a significant thread is shaping wellness: the return to nature as a grounding force. More people are seeking spaces that provide calm,

simplicity and a sense of belonging. Landscapes that encourage reflection, such as coastlines, forests, and mountainous terrain, are being recognised not only for their physical beauty but for their restorative power.

Water, especially, holds a distinct place within this evolution. Saltwater swimming, hydrotherapy and immersion in natural pools have seen a notable rise in popularity. These experiences, long associated with physical healing, are now understood to offer emotional clarity as well. Improved circulation, muscle recovery and nervous-system regulation are common benefits, but the psychological uplift is often the deeper draw. Many retreats have expanded their offerings to include thalassotherapy and mineral-rich bathing, harnessing the unique properties of natural water sources.

This integration of place and practice is often paired with an increased commitment to sustainability. Many wellness destinations now operate with environmental consciousness at their core, adopting renewable energy, lowimpact building methods and locally sourced materials. For many seekers, the knowledge that their well-being has been nurtured without harming the landscape around them enhances the sense of harmony and fulfilment.

BELOW ê Group saunas are thriving as people seek connection

é ABOVE
Balanced workouts are feeding into hybrid fitness programmes

Nutrition plays a similar role in these settings. Retreats frequently centre their culinary approach on plant-forward, locally sourced menus that nourish both body and mind. Meals are designed to support digestion, stabilise mood and sustain energy, reinforcing the idea that wellness should be an integrated way of living. Cooking workshops and nutrition sessions offer guests the skills to continue these habits at home, strengthening the continuity between retreat life and daily life.

Movement within these natural environments takes many forms. Whether through hiking, cycling, surfing or kayaking, people are finding joy in activities that engage both body and landscape. Adventure-focused wellness has gained momentum, offering experiences that challenge physical strength while developing mental resilience.

Holistic practices such as yoga, meditation and mindfulness remain essential elements of this landscape. Sound therapy, guided meditation and breath-led practices help individuals reconnect with themselves and with their surroundings, creating pockets of stillness that counterbalance the pace of modern life.

Throughout this widening landscape, one theme remains consistent: wellness is most effective when it acknowledges the interconnectedness of all aspects of life. It is not limited to the physical body or the pursuit of self-improvement but embraces emotional balance, community bonds, environmental responsibility and the cultivation of habits that endure.

Ultimately, the wellness landscape of 2026 is defined by its approach – one of wholeness. As awareness deepens and priorities shift, wellness is becoming less of an escape and more of a way of being. Whether through evidence-led routines, restorative encounters with nature, mindful nourishment or shared experiences, people are crafting a future in which wellbeing is not an aspiration but an everyday practice.

A decade of excellence IN CORNWALL

2026 is a landmark year for Rohrs & Rowe.

We caught up with the team to hear about this milestone year and some of their recent successes. Cornwall’s premier estate agency has joined the UK’s most exciting new nationwide property network, The Finest Property Collective, as the county’s exclusive representative. They were also once again named Best Estate Agency in Cornwall 2025/26 by the International Property Awards, and they celebrate their 10th anniversary; a trio of achievements that perfectly mark a decade of dedication and expertise.

The Finest Property Collective (www.finest. co.uk) brings together a hand-picked group of independent estate agents across the UK’s most desirable markets. Its partners are renowned for thoughtful marketing, strong

reputations, and the ability to connect discerning buyers with exceptional homes.

As Cornwall’s exclusive representative, Rohrs & Rowe now present the county’s finest properties to a nationwide audience of buyers whose lifestyle ambitions and investment priorities align seamlessly.

Over the past ten years, Rohrs & Rowe have quietly redefined how Cornish homes are promoted. Sellers value their clear and considered guidance, and campaigns that go far beyond the standard approach. While property portals like Rightmove and OnTheMarket remain integral, the agency’s reach is greatly extended by long-established relationships with regional magazines such as Cornwall Living, national property journalists, and, now, amplified through The Finest

Property Collective network. Recent sales demonstrate the strength of this approach.

Pentui, Feock: Matthew first sold this property nearly 20 years ago and maintained contact with its owners. When planning permission was granted and a new house constructed within the grounds, returning Pentui to the market was the next step.

Matthew’s intimate knowledge of the home and its history allowed the team to present it with clarity and confidence, something buyers immediately appreciated.

The owners shared: “We have known Matthew for 18 years; initially when he sold us Pentui, and more recently when he acted for us in selling it. Throughout, Matthew has always been professional, charming, honest and open. He maintains a highly personal approach, showing all potential buyers around our home and responding promptly to enquiries. Rohrs & Rowe attain a standard of excellence that truly showcases the properties on their books: superb photography, beautifully produced

brochures, and first-class advertising in national and county-wide publications. We would not hesitate to recommend Matthew to any prospective seller or buyer.”

Amity Lodge, Freathy Cliff: Sold during a period of uncertainty for the holidaylet market, the team created a targeted nationwide campaign, highlighting its exceptional letting record via Unique Homestays, market-leading income, and lifestyle appeal. Interest built quickly, and the sale completed ahead of the Government’s autumn Budget, a clear example of how a thoughtful, bespoke strategy can outperform broader market trends.

What sets Rohrs & Rowe apart is not any single tactic, but a consistent commitment to doing things differently — and doing them properly. Their marketing is structured, communication refreshingly direct, and results consistently strong. For anyone buying or selling within Cornwall’s premium market, this combination brings clarity, confidence, and peace of mind, qualities that have earned them the reputation and title as Cornwall’s best estate agency.

As they mark ten years in business, joining The Finest Property Collective feels like the perfect next step, the beginning of another chapter in the story of Cornwall’s most trusted estate agency. Whether you are considering selling your home or have struggled to find the right buyer, the team at Rohrs & Rowe would be delighted to explore how their bespoke approach can make all the difference.

Making the

TRANSITION

We all become comfortable in the familiar. But invariably, it’s not always the best place to be.

In a flagship Cornish example, GreenGenUK helped a homeowner in Flushing make the leap from traditional oil heating to a fully renewable, futureproof energy system. The old oil boiler was replaced with a 6 kW Mitsubishi Ecodan R290 air-source heat pump, supported by a 250-litre unvented cylinder and newly-sized radiators to suit the property’s specific heat-loss profile. As a result, 100% of the home’s space heating and hot water demand is now met through renewable energy, with the projected annual cost of running the system estimated at just £759.

To maximise efficiency and resilience, GreenGenUK also fitted a 3.72 kWp solar photovoltaic array (8 high-performance Aiko Neostar panels) combined with a 9.5 kWh battery and hybrid inverter. This setup is expected to generate roughly 3,561 kWh of clean electricity per year, deliver 60% energy independence, and save more than £32,000 over its lifetime, paying back in about nine years. On top of that, the system reduces CO2 emissions by over 900kg annually, which GreenGenUK equates to planting 174 trees over its lifespan.

The homeowner was effusive in their praise: the installation team was described as “very professional and creative in thinking around

various issues” and leaving “all the pipework and trunking … absolutely immaculate.” It’s a very tangible demonstration of how Cornwall residents can cut costs, reduce their carbon footprint and futureproof their homes, all with GreenGenUK’s trusted, local expertise. Backed by more than a decade of experience, GreenGenUK has grown into one of the region’s most trusted renewable energy specialists, with local experts serving communities across Cornwall and the South West. From initial survey to system design, installation and ongoing aftercare, every project is delivered by engineers who understand the unique demands of Cornish homes, from coastal cottages to rural farmhouses. Their team’s local knowledge, combined with industryleading training and accreditations, means homeowners benefit from tailored, highperforming renewable systems backed by fast, reliable support whenever they need it.

Driveway design

DONE WELL

A South Cornwall couple gain a smart, low-maintenance driveway upgrade.

Gardens Made Easy was recently approached by a couple in Truro who had removed a run of tired bamboo screening and now needed a practical, lasting alternative. What began as a straightforward request for advice evolved into a focused redesign that strengthened privacy, improved appearance and reduced ongoing upkeep. Olly from the team visited the property to understand how the space was used and to look at viable options. Together with the homeowners, he worked through several approaches before agreeing on a plan that balanced durability with a clean, modern finish.

Canadian cedar panels formed the backbone of the new screening. Chosen for their warm tone and reliability, the slatted design introduced structure without feeling heavy. These were supported by Durapost fence posts, selected for their strength and minimal maintenance requirements. Where the bamboo had once been, the team replaced the disorderly planting with a raised bed. This introduced order and definition along the edge of the drive, finished with 60 mm slate shingles for texture and contrast. Corten steel edging held everything neatly in place and will age in a controlled and attractive way. Attention then turned to the

entrance area. The original slabs at the top of the driveway were replaced with a resinbound surface from Resin Made Easy, edged with red brick to tie in with the house. The result was a sharper, more coherent approach to the property, with a surface designed to cope well with regular use.

The completed project offered the homeowners the privacy they needed alongside a tidier, more efficient layout. Clean lines, sturdy materials and considered detailing replaced what had previously been an awkward, high-maintenance corner. The clients described the team as hardworking and practical, praising the combination of fencing, resin and steel that reshaped their overgrown drive into a modern and easy-tomanage space.

For anyone looking to refresh planting, update hard landscaping or bring clarity to an outdoor area that no longer works as intended, Gardens Made Easy provides a straightforward route to a more functional and better-presented space.

Sleeper train

ADVENTURE

Board in Cornwall, wake up in the heart of London refreshed and ready to explore the capital.

There is something irresistibly romantic about boarding a sleeper train, settling into your own private cabin, and waking up to the quiet hum of London as it comes to life. Great Western Railway’s Night Riviera Sleeper is not just a way to travel between Cornwall and the capital – it is an experience in its own right, a journey that blends the literary idea of classic rail travel – think Daphne du Maurier, Pascal Mercier, Michael Palin – with the pull of modern convenience.

Step onto the platform in Cornwall, and your journey awaits. The evening air is cool; the train, resplendent in its green livery, awaits. Passengers with cabins are invited into the Night Riviera Sleeper Lounge, where a warm drink and a comfortable chair set the scene for the night ahead. The demands of the day slip away as the train glides out of the station.

As you close your cabin door behind you, you’ll find that the space is both private and practical. Crisp white bedding, a soft pillow, a wash basin tucked neatly into the corner – small details that transform the train into a place of rest rather than simply a means of transport. Settle in with a book or head to the lounge car for a drink, as the landscape rolls past in the dark, occasionally lit up by street lamps or lights from houses, the reassuring sensation of movement lulling you towards sleep.

At some point in the night, Cornwall gives way to Devon, then Somerset, then the Home Counties. There is no need to mark the miles or count the stations as the Night Riviera Sleeper invites you to simply enjoy the journey. By the time you stir in the morning, the train is approaching London. The city wakes as you do, with a complimentary breakfast delivered to your cabin, a quiet

indulgence before the pace of the day begins. A hot shower awaits in the First Class Lounge at Paddington, along with the knowledge that you have arrived rested, ready to make the most of the day ahead.

For those travelling on business, this is a way to reclaim time – to avoid the early morning flight or the tiresome, bleary-eyed rush of the first train out of Cornwall. Instead, arrive in the capital refreshed, able to walk into meetings with energy and focus.

For leisure travellers, the Night Riviera adds another layer to a London trip, making the journey itself an integral part of the adventure. Theatreland, the great museums, the hidden corners of the city all await. With 2-for-1 entry at many attractions (www.nationalrail.co.uk/days-out-guide), there is every reason to step straight from the platform into the heart of the capital’s cultural life.

Some choose to travel up overnight but return by day, missing out on one of the true joys of the service. The Night Riviera is not just a way to

get to London; it allows you to enjoy a full day of city life, before boarding again at Paddington and letting the train carry you home. Cornwall waits in the morning, its coastline, harbours, and winding lanes welcoming you.

The beauty of the Night Riviera lies in its simplicity. No check-in queues, no long airport transfers and no early alarms. Just the gentle motion of the train, the privacy of a wellappointed cabin with ever-changing views, and the knowledge that by morning, you will be somewhere new and exciting. In winter, when the nights are long and the days crisp, there is no better way to travel. And with cabins available from £49* alongside your train ticket, it is as much an indulgence as it is a practical choice.

A journey by rail is one of life’s great pleasures, and the Night Riviera Sleeper is one of the finest ways to experience it. Cornwall and London are two very different places, but between them runs a line that allows you to drift from one to the other as the country sleeps. Step aboard, settle in, and let the miles pass below you – unnoticed.

* Prices are correct as of December 2025 and are subject to availability. A valid train ticket is required in addition to the cabin supplement. Cabin reservations are optional; seating is available on this service. Terms and conditions apply.

A love letter to CORNISH SEA SALT

Let’s talk about salt.

Yes, salt. I know what you’re thinking: “It’s just salt, how exciting could this possibly be?” Well, buckle up, because I’m about to tell you why Cornish Sea Salt is the one thing the kitchen desperately needs. Here’s the thing about Cornish Sea Salt: it’s made by actual humans who care about salt more than most people care about their hobbies. The Cornish Sea Salt Company (cornishseasalt.co.uk) harvest their salt from the pristine waters off the Cornish coast, using traditional methods that would make your great-grandmother nod approvingly. They filter seawater, gently heat it, and hand-harvest the resulting crystals like they’re mining for tiny, delicious diamonds. I wish I could tell you all the details but I am sworn to secrecy by Phil Tanswell, the MD of Cornish Sea Salt... also, I’m not sure if I can even remember half of what he told me about what is a very intricate process!

AKA Lagom Chef
Words by Martyn Odell

The result? Salt that actually tastes beyond salty. There are mineral notes, a slight sweetness and a complexity that makes you realise that table salt is basically the instant coffee of the seasoning world. Sure, it’ll do the job, but why settle for fine when you can have magnificent?

I was lucky enough to have a tour of the factory, more interestingly named the Salt House, nestled in a small cove on the Lizard peninsula called Pol Gwarra. It is tucked away like a bond villain’s secret lair, seamlessly blending into the coast line. Cornwall is known for its spectacular coast but this protected cove seemed extra special. As we approached the stretch of sea beside the salt house, its clarity was striking — grade-A Atlantic brine feeding the works. The distinctive geology beneath the surface enriches it with minerals, the very qualities that make Cornish Sea Salt transform a dish and give it a flavour that’s wildly, wonderfully different. Phil explained salt as listening to music; table salt is like listening through some old crackly headphones, while Cornish Sea Salt is like surround sound.

cherry wood, to give this little pot of joy! It still feels like a treat to crack a fresh pot and have the first whiff.

If you are still a salt sceptic who thinks all salt is the same, then please do a very simple test: Slice a tomato, sprinkle one with table salt and one with Cornish Sea Salt and have a taste! It will blow your mind and make you question all your previous cooking experiences.

Yes, Cornish Sea Salt costs more than table salt. But here’s my counterargument: so does literally everything else that’s good. A nice bottle of wine costs more than a box of wine. Good coffee costs more than instant. (Yallah being one of my personal favourites FYI.) Quality ingredients elevate your cooking in ways that no amount of technique can replicate.

Let’s address the elephant in the room: these are flaky crystals, not fine powder. The first time you pinch Cornish Sea Salt between your fingers, you’ll understand. It’s got this gorgeous, delicate crunch that dissolves on your tongue like snowflakes. These flakes don’t just season your food they add texture, they add interest, they add a certain je ne sais quoi that will have your dinner guests asking what you’ve done differently? Answer: you upgraded your salt game, that’s what. Before Cornish Sea Salt: You make scrambled eggs. They taste like scrambled eggs. Your Tuesday morning is fine. After Cornish Sea Salt: You make scrambled eggs, finish them with a pinch of these magical flakes, and suddenly you’re questioning every breakfast you’ve ever eaten. The eggs taste richer, more egg-y, more alive. Your Tuesday morning has purpose now. They don’t do just plain salt either, they have one of my personal favourites, Smoked Salt, gently smoked over oak, apple and

Cornish Sea Salt will solve

Look, I’m not saying Cornish Sea Salt will solve all your problems. It won’t help you parallel park, it won’t make your in-laws less judgmental, and it definitely won’t clean your kitchen (I’ve tried). But it will make your food taste better. Noticeably, significantly better. It’s the easiest upgrade you can make to your cooking; no new skills required; no fancy equipment needed. Just swap out that tired old grinder for some proper Cornish Sea Salt, and watch as everything you make suddenly tastes like you’ve been holding out on everyone. Your scrambled eggs will thank you. Your roasted potatoes will thank you. Your guests will thank you.

So go ahead, make the switch. Your taste buds have been waiting for this moment, and honestly? They deserve it. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with some salt-sprinkled dark chocolate. Life is good.

FRESHBold and

Café Uneeka unveils a new look and menu in Truro.

Café Uneeka, the much-loved dining spot above Uneeka’s lifestyle store on Boscawen Street, Truro, steps confidently into a new season with a vibrant makeover and a refreshed menu designed to brighten even the greyest day.

Part of Cornwall’s cherished independent brand Uneeka, the café has long been a haven for creativity and comfort. Now, that spirit has been channelled into a revitalised space that feels fresher, bolder and more uplifting than ever.

The redesign has been a joyful team collaboration. “The design evolved through so many stages, shaped by ideas from the whole team,” says assistant manager Bella. The final look blends flowing organic shapes with nature-led tones: calming greens, earthy tilework, natural textures incorporating playful bursts of colour, including a warming sweep of bold orange. The result is a space that feels renewed yet comfortingly familiar.

The menu, too, has embraced the season. New dishes such as the spiced cauliflower toastie sit alongside revamped classics, like the vibrant sharing boards for two. Winter warmers, including indulgent boozy hot chocolates, make a welcome return. “We’ve brought back favourites and focused on flavours that are warming and unique,” says

Café Manager Hollie. “Almost everything is made in-house and we’ve worked hard to keep the menu adaptable for all dietary needs so everyone feels welcome.”

Responding to enthusiastic customer demand, Café Uneeka is also now bottling and selling its delicious parsnip and chilli chutney, a cult favourite thanks to its appearance in several toasties. It joins a growing retail shelf featuring chai syrup, LoveDay spirits distilled in Falmouth and locally roasted coffee beans, with more treats on the way.

Alongside extended opening hours, 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10:30am to 4:30pm on Sundays, the café continues to serve as a vibrant community hub. The upstairs space is available to rent for private events, gatherings, or creative workshops, whilst the team also offers catering-only options for those hosting elsewhere.

Keep an eye on their website and social media for upcoming workshops too.

Wellbeing

BY

DESIGN

A considered wellness offering shaped for balance and restoration.

As a new year presents us with a gentler rhythm and a chance to see things in a different light, The Greenbank invites guests to rediscover meaningful moments on the coast. Never mind resolutions and reinvention – here it’s all about small rituals to help you get back to yourself again.

Edging the harbour outside the hotel, the wood-fired sauna from Escape to the Sauna beckons barefoot wanderers up the steps and into the warmth to sit with a sweeping view of the coastline. As the scent of woodsmoke wraps around you like a comforting blanket, it’s moments like this that offer permission to slow down, exhale, and let your stresses slip away with the tide.

For those craving a little thrill, a plunge into the sheltered harbour below between sessions offers that invigorating rush of clarity we all crave after winter’s lull. Others may simply sink deeper into the warmth, watching boats bob along the shoreline while the nervous system quietly unwinds.

Choose from communal sessions with likeminded folk or private hire for a peaceful moment that’s entirely your own. Hotel guests receive 20% off when booking ahead via their pre-arrival email, and the reward continues afterwards: dry off, wrap up and head to The Working Boat or the Water’s Edge bar for a £5 coffee and pastry when you show your sauna booking confirmation.

Across town, sister hotel The Falmouth embraces the same thoughtful take on wellbeing. Its spa, sauna, pool, hot tub and gym are designed to flow together – a rhythm of movement and rest. Massages at the hands of expert therapists melt stiffness, a swim offers weightless calm, and a moment in the sauna completes the cycle. And if you’re staying at The Greenbank, The Falmouth, or sister hotel The Alverton, you’ll receive 20% off treatments during your stay.

Together, these two coastal hideaways celebrate a new kind of wellness, favouring inclusivity over pressure, and joy over trends. This winter, let Cornwall’s shoreline remind you: feeling good doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as sea air, steady heat, and a moment that’s just for you.

Reset and

REFOCUS

Begin the year with a coastal reset where restorative treatments, fresh air and gentle movement come naturally.

St Michaels Resort presents a straightforward and welcoming proposition. It’s a place where guests can take stock and improve their wellbeing following a demanding year. Its approach is built around practical methods for reducing stress and supporting both physical and mental health. At the centre of this sits the resort’s hydrothermal spa. Warm water releases tension in tired muscles, whilst salt steam assists with breathing and skin health. Here you’ll find a quiet, tranquil atmosphere helping you to clear your mind and restore a sense of equilibrium.

The rooms and suites sit close to Gyllyngvase Beach, giving guests direct access to the shoreline for early-morning swims or invigorating walks. The resort’s team notes that these simple routines often prove highly effective in helping visitors reset their habits, especially during winter when a structured start to the day can make a noticeable difference.

Movement is woven into the weekly schedule through yoga, Pilates and stretch classes. These are led by instructors who focus on clear and supportive guidance, with beach sessions offered when the weather cooperates.

The aim is to help guests reconnect with their bodies, whether they are looking to improve flexibility or address the fatigue that often accumulates over the festive period.

As part of a holistic approach, the resort’s restaurants serve dishes based on Cornish produce, prepared to be satisfying without being overly demanding. The intention is to offer nourishment that supports an active stay rather than compromising it.

Outside, the subtropical gardens give guests somewhere to wander and relax. These outdoor areas act as gentle extensions of the spa and fitness facilities, offering peaceful spaces in which to reflect.

Throughout the winter months, spa days, short wellness stays and two-hour hydrothermal sessions mean that St Michaels Resort can provide a framework that helps visitors return home better prepared for the months ahead.

Trust a local

LETTING AGENT

When local knowledge and experience pay dividends.

Owning a holiday home in Cornwall should be rewarding in more ways than one – from providing a place for holiday makers to stay to delivering an income. However, with rising costs, new regulations and endless competition, finding the right letting partner has never mattered more.

At Cornish Traditional Cottages, they’ve been connecting guests with Cornish homes since 1964. As a family-run, independent agency, their values remain rooted in trust born of honesty, aligned with a love of Cornwall. They don’t answer to investors or shareholders; they answer to their owners, many of whom have been with them for years.

Choosing a local agent means choosing people who know your area, your guests and your property on an intimate level. From pricing advice based on real local insight to carefully written descriptions and honest feedback after every stay, their team treats each cottage as if it were their own.

Unlike the large corporate chains, they don’t rely on algorithms or call centres. Every owner has a dedicated contact who will guide you through regulations, marketing, guest

communication and revenue performance. Their commission is simple and fair and they work with you, not against you, to help your holiday home thrive.

Their reach is powerful, too. Their website attracts guests from across the UK and beyond, supported by a network of affiliate platforms that extend visibility while keeping your property anchored within a trusted Cornish brand. It’s the perfect balance between national exposure and the care of a truly local team.

If you value an experience that feels more personal, informed by local expertise and the reassurance that your property is in safe hands, then talk to Cornwall’s original letting specialists. What they’ve provided for their existing clients could be what you’ve been looking for.

A Cornish Retreat for Every Kind of Escape

Steady support

WHEN NEEDED

Practical care delivered with reliability and genuine attentiveness.

Heart of the South Care has worked with people across Cornwall since 2007, building a reputation for dependable, day-to-day support shaped around what individuals actually need rather than what a generic service might assume. The organisation focuses on continuity, ensuring that clients see the same workers as much as possible. As they put it, “Uniquely, we offer continuity with familiar faces for as long as you need them, reducing stress and building trust, and enhancing what can be achieved to ensure every person is living the life they enjoy safely.” For many families, this consistency removes uncertainty, allowing routines to settle and relationships to form at a comfortable pace. The agency describes its support workers as “kind, patient and genuinely caring”, and the

testimonials provided by employees and clients reinforce that message with honesty. Paula James says, “I have only worked in care for six years. I have been with Heart of the South Care Agency for just over a year and a half. This is by far the best company I have worked for. We have very high standards with our service users. Great management is always at the end of the phone when you need them. Please come and join our team.” Others echo her sense of being looked after as well as being expected to deliver strong practice. Mand Lawrence-West calls it “An amazing company to work for, great ethics, great team members, great support.”

The agency offers flexible hours and care levels, from six-hour visits to round-the-clock support. Individuals living with Dementia, Alzheimer’s, significant clinical needs, life-

limiting conditions, brain trauma, life-changing injuries, Autism and learning disabilities are all within their remit. Each person receives a tailored plan based on preferences, routines and lifestyle, with room for adjustment as needs evolve. “Our Carers show up on time, follow routines and achieve safety, happiness and our clients’ personal goals,” they say, and the practical tone of that statement is borne out across their approach.

Crucially, families are included in the conversation. The organisation notes, “Heart of the South believes in Communication and Transparency. We have holistically supported the whole family of the person being supported where needed, through illness, life-limited prognosis, and day-to-day issues, with advice and presence.” That willingness to remain available, including a full 24-hour on-call line every day of the year, reassures clients. Their commitment to clear contracts, transparent costs and no hidden fees further reduces the administrative strain that often complicates arranging care.

Training and vetting receive sustained attention. Annual DBS checks, regular observations, 1:1 supervisions and appraisals are embedded into their processes. The agency underlines the importance of safety and preparation: infection control, medication management and emergency planning form part of the core training. They see their workforce as the organisation’s most important resource and invest in it accordingly. As one experienced employee put it, “After working in care for 30+ years, this company, Heart of the South Care Agency is by far the best care company I have ever worked for. The high standards they demand from their Carers and the genuine care for every service user make me proud to be a part of the Team and so proud to wear their uniform. The management team looks after their workforce, and I feel safe in their hands. Come and join us.”

Clients and families add their own perspectives. Tanya Atkins writes, “One of the best! I often think about should a time come when I need to be cared for. Heart of the South Care Agency would be the ones I'd want looking after me. They go over and above. They really do care!”

Another client, Jacob Benjamin, explains, “They are the best care company as they help me with all my disabled needs and when I get into the office to work for them, they make sure that I'm all happy with what I'm doing and we have fun times… Highly recommended.” The theme continues in feedback from relatives. Kerry Clements says, “Heart of the South Care Agency goes above and beyond!! Amazing Staff, caring, cheerful as well as being very supportive. Thank you so so much for caring for Ian, I wouldn't want anyone else.”

The agency’s registration with the CQC, its good rating, and its Domiciliary Care contract with Cornwall Council adds a further layer of accountability. Before any placement begins, the team carries out detailed risk assessments to ensure that both clients and staff have what they need to work safely. Compatible personalities and shared interests are also considered, helping to create comfortable everyday interactions rather than purely task-focused visits. Through long-term consistency, careful hiring, responsive planning and an emphasis on communication, Heart of the South Care Agency presents itself as a steady presence for people who want to remain safe and supported at home.
