Enea is one of the world’s leading landscape architecture firms specializing in the design, development and construction of custom gardens and spaces in both the public and private sectors. When considering the design of a space, a project’s genius loci (the character and atmosphere of a space) will often guide the major design gestures. Enea’s participation in various international competitions reinforces the creative and planning competence of the team, headquartered in Rapperswil-Jona with branch offices in Zurich, Miami and New York.

With the opening of the world’s very first tree museum, we demonstrated our commitment to a varied garden culture. The exhibition of the tree collection allows people to admire the exceptional beauty and rarity of the trees, which in turn makes the observer aware of the natural origins of life, space and time and how they are intertwined with these majestic lifeforms. Our park is both a habitat and a place where ideas are developed – a source of inspiration for landscape architecture and space concepts. In addition to being an environment for trees to thrive in, our exterior spaces are constructed for works of art. Our tree museum is also home to sculptures by renowned artists from leading galleries.

My understanding of nature is all about a fundamental experience of my childhood: the encounter with my grandfatherâ&#x20AC;&#x2DC;s fragrant orchards during the eternal Italian summers. These orchards were heavenly for me, and the vegetable patches and peach trees fascinated me even as a child. One plants something in the ground, cares for it and creates something they could live from. The work in this garden, the childlike, carefree participation in the gift and perfection of nature, was my idea of absolute â&#x20AC;&#x2039;â&#x20AC;&#x2039; happiness. This attitude was passed on to me by my family and has shaped me to this day. The importance of such experiences with playful seeing, touching, feeling, smelling and tasting of nature seems to be increasingly dwindling today. It is particularly important to me that future generations also know the beauty and value of nature and are committed to sustainability and moderate households with our given, limited resources. Children should start on a small scale by respectfully handling nature and knowing how to plant a seedling and let it grow, so that one day they can reap its fruits - as I was taught. For me, happiness is today, for example, when I can bite into a self-picked apple during my morning walk. As a landscape architect, I am at times a researcher, a scientist and an alchemist. I see garden architecture as an extended living space for well-being. Even as a young child I felt the gardens that I saw as something valuable and beautiful and wondered how I could give exterior spaces the right proportions and character because what I create should last for decades. A high quality of life is for me to be able to open the window, feel a good microclimate, inhale clean air and perceive the beautiful light conditions, moods, scents, textures and proportions of our earth. For the future generations of our digital age, I wish them to develop a sense of the essential and authenticity in life. Everyone should have the opportunity to let nature guide them until they find their place. I would like to make my modest contribution to that.
