LEADING OTHERS Leading others is a difficult endeavor. What often appear to be simple, straightforward principles can be deceptively difficult to implement. Designed to help practicing managers become more effective leaders, this one-day program delves into the fundamentals of leading others to accomplish an organization’s goals.
Through relevant readings, case discussions, and exercises, you will gain a broader and deeper understanding of leadership principles, the nature of power and influence, and best practices in managing upward, downward, and sideways. Leadership is contextual and requires judgment and participants should expect to grapple with ambiguous situations that do not have simple solutions.

FIRE SAFETY IN BUILDINGS After presenting national and international regulations, the course will discuss fire as a phenomenon including risk and consequences. Different causes and types of fire development will be presented and also materials contribution to this.
HARALD LANDRØ PROFESSOR OF FIRE SAFETY IN BUILDINGS AT NTNU, NORWAY
Materials reaction to fire is a special topic. We will also go through the international system for classification and present the most relevant test methods. This will logically be followed by structural responses to fire, and the course will go deeply into fire resistance related to the concept load/response. Here, the Eurocodes are the main tools both for thermal and mechanical load effects and the basis for structural fire design of concrete, steel and timber.
Harald Landrø has served different positions from scientist to technical director and as a general manager at SINTEF - The Norwegian Fire Research Laboratory - for 24 years. He has served as department director at one of the biggest consultant companies in Norway (Cowi) for 4 years. Landrø has held the main responsibility for the Norwegian representation in ISO and CEN within the field of fire resistance. He has also been the board chairman of the sector of building, construction and property in Standard Norway since it was established.
By adding concepts and methods for risk analyses regarding fire in buildings and transforming all this knowledge into ‘Fire Safety Engineering (FSE)’, the course gives a valuable contribution to fire safety in buildings. What will you learn: • Increased understanding of fire risk and how to handle this phenomenon. • Increased professional competence among participants which will allow them to be an active body within fire safety and the total building process.

BUILDING MOBILE APPS WITH XAMARIN Building a mobile app is never building one app. It’s building an app for Android, one for Windows Phone and one for iOS. Learning three platforms is time consuming, but the real problem is having to write the same code three times. Xamarin allows us to do this in a much more efficient way.
LANDER VERHACK SOFTWARE EXPERT, TRAINER AND STRATEGIST AT U2U
One language to rule them all: C#, while staying true to the platform. Xamarin is based upon Mono, the open source implementation of the .NET runtime. By combining reusable C# code and platform-specific views, Xamarin is able to create cross-platform native apps with all features and the power the native platform has to offer.
Lander Verhack graduated as Master of Science Civil Engineering at the University of Ghent. He works as a software expert, trainer and strategist at U2U. He focusses on Front-End development in .NET, HTML5 and Mobile Apps. Lander is author of the U2U training material on Windows 10, Xamarin, Android and Angular. Lander has a strong passion for technology and enjoys playing music in his spare time.
Topics covered: • Introduction to Xamarin • Android in a nutshell • Xamarin for Android • Android Views • iOS in a nutshell • Xamarin for iOS • iOS Views • Windows Phone in a nutshell • Windows Phone Views • Xamarin.Forms • Cross-Domain Code Patterns • Local Data • Web Services Who should attend: Participants of this course need to have a good understanding of C# and an understanding of mobile app development. THE FIVE KEYS TO SUCCESSFUL TEST AUTOMATION Automated testing is a key ingredient in an Agile and DevOps strategy, where continuous integration, continuous deployment mean continuous testing is a must-have. However, such automation often proves cumbersome and costly to build and maintain.
HANS BUWALDA CTO AT LOGIGEAR CORPORATION
We often view this as a technical problem, for an engineer to solve with tools like Selenium. However, there are other areas that often have a much stronger impact.
Hans Buwalda has been working with information technology since his high school years. In his career, Hans has gained experience as a developer, manager, and principal consultant for companies and organizations worldwide. He was a pioneer of the keyword approach to testing and automation, now widely used throughout the industry. His approaches to testing action-based testing and soap opera testing - have helped a variety of customers achieve scalable and maintainable solutions for large and complex testing challenges. Hans is a frequent speaker at international conferences and is lead author of Integrated Test Design and Automation.
In this workshop Hans Buwalda will discuss five major areas that can contribute to automation success. The most important of these is the test design, and Hans will show how keywords, and related to that BDD, plus a modular approach will help address this, even for non-technical testers. He will also show how to best fit automation in Agile projects, and what developers can do to help the tests be successful. Topics covered: • Test automation approaches. • Keyword and scenario based automation. • Modular test design. • Improving testability of applications. • Getting testing and automation “done” in agile sprints. • Using virtualization for automated testing. • Dealing with configurations.

ANGULAR 2 Angular 2 is a brand new iteration of Google’s popular web framework. It features a modular, pluggable, component-based architecture which scales easily from small to very large, and powers many of Google’s core services, including AdWords, the largest web app on the planet. This course teaches Angular 2 from the ground up, without magic. You will understand what each tool does, and how to use it in your application, and will build a simple web application over the duration of the course.
